The i-Speed Internet speed measurement system, developed by the Vietnam Internet Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Information and Communications, has just released updated data on the speed and latency of Vietnam’s mobile broadband network for July 2024.
This neutral measurement system allows users to proactively choose measurement points, perform measurements, and self-evaluate their Internet access speed according to the standards and packages offered by network providers.
The latest data shows that the quality of mobile broadband networks of Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone, and Vietnamobile has been consistently improving.
Specifically, Viettel has taken the lead in mobile Internet speed. In July 2024, the average mobile Internet download and upload speeds for Viettel users reached 65.89 Mbps and 21.71 Mbps, respectively.
Over the past two months, Viettel’s mobile broadband speed has seen remarkable growth, with download speeds of 63.81 Mbps in June, 45.09 Mbps in May, and 43.9 Mbps in April.
VNPT ranks second, with average mobile Internet download and upload speeds of 52.99 Mbps and 21.5 Mbps, respectively.
MobiFone and Vietnamobile occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively, with MobiFone achieving download and upload speeds of 37.19 Mbps and 20.59 Mbps, while Vietnamobile reached 10.59 Mbps for downloads and 3.99 Mbps for uploads.
Vietnam’s mobile broadband average download speed has been consistently increasing for five consecutive months, starting from March 2024. During this period, the mobile download speed increased from 38.69 Mbps in March to 54.34 Mbps in July, a slight increase from June’s 52.4 Mbps, but the highest growth in the past year. The average mobile broadband upload speed stood at 21.19 Mbps, on par with June 2024.
In the five major cities, mobile broadband speeds in July witnessed a significant surge, with Da Nang taking the lead (75.84 Mbps). This was followed by Hai Phong (59 Mbps), Can Tho (57.87 Mbps), Ho Chi Minh City (52.56 Mbps), and Hanoi (51.47 Mbps).
Regarding fixed broadband, the speeds have remained stable nationwide in recent months. The average download and upload speeds across Vietnam in July were 100.28 Mbps and 102.34 Mbps, respectively. In the last three months, fixed internet speeds, both upload and download, have been stable, with a negligible variation of 1%.
When it comes to network providers, Viettel offered the best fixed internet download speed in Vietnam during July, with an impressive 128.97 Mbps. FPT Telecom secured second place with 100.59 Mbps, while VNPT came in third with 95.82 Mbps.
CMC Telecom experienced a significant drop in speed and no longer leads the market as it did in previous months. Their fixed internet download speed decreased from 318.52 Mbps in May and 299.24 Mbps in June to 74.58 Mbps in July, pushing them down to fourth place. Following in fifth and sixth places were SCTV (73.26 Mbps) and Netnam (60.77 Mbps), respectively. Insufficient data was available for SPT to be included in this assessment.
According to recent statistics from Ookla Speedtest, Vietnam’s fixed internet speed for July reached 146.79 Mbps for downloads and 127.56 Mbps for uploads, propelling the country’s ranking from 37th in the previous month to 32nd. Vietnam’s fixed broadband internet speed has climbed 15 spots in the last five months and now stands at 32nd globally.
This is the fifth consecutive month of improvement in both speed and ranking for Vietnam’s fixed broadband. In February, the measured speed was 107 Mbps, and it has been on an upward trajectory since.
Similarly, mobile broadband has seen enhancements in speed and ranking over the last four months. In July, the download and upload speeds reached 55.41 Mbps and 20.58 Mbps, respectively, ranking Vietnam 44th globally.
