The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport for approval of the planning of Pleiku Airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050.

According to the master plan for the development of the national airport system approved by the Prime Minister for the period 2021-2030 and the vision towards 2050, Pleiku Airport is expected to reach a designed capacity of 4 million passengers per year by 2030. The expansion will continue in the period leading up to 2050, aiming for a capacity of 5 million passengers annually.

As per the 2021-2030 plan and the 2050 vision, Pleiku Airport, located in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, is a domestic airport and is classified as a 4C airport. It boasts a 2,400-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway and an aircraft parking area with five positions, capable of accommodating Airbus A320, A321, and equivalent aircraft.

Looking ahead to 2050, Pleiku Airport is envisioned to maintain its status as a 4C and military-grade II airport, with a capacity of 5 million passengers and 12,000 tons of cargo annually. The airport will offer a total of 18 aircraft parking positions.

The airport’s new passenger terminal is designed to handle a capacity of 4 million passengers per year. By 2050, the terminal is expected to be expanded to cater to 5 million passengers annually, with provisions for further development if needed.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam states that the planning dossier for Pleiku Airport for the period 2021-2030 and the vision towards 2050 was developed by consulting firms based on statistical analysis of current airport operations in Vietnam, as well as economic growth, tourism, trade services, and other industries that influence passenger traffic at Pleiku Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam recommends that the Ministry of Transport coordinate with the People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province to incorporate the planning of Pleiku Airport into the adjusted master plan for Pleiku City up to 2045.
