According to Carnewschina, Wuling has officially launched the Youth Edition of its Hongguang Mini EV on August 20, with a starting price of 40,800 Chinese yuan (equivalent to $5,700, or over VND 142 million in converted currency).

This version offers a range of 215 km on a single charge and includes more features than the Mini version first launched in 2020, such as increased speed, fast charging, and dual airbags.

The Youth Edition comes in five quirky color options: milky coffee dream, light yellow, avocado green, white peach, and iris blue. It also features distinctive details like white accents around the headlights, license plate, and rear components, along with black-trimmed B and C pillars and mirrors.

There are two interior color choices: candy butter and black almond. Aside from the color options, there are no significant changes to the interior of the car, with the Mini EV retaining only the driver’s display screen. Notably, the Youth Edition features a dual airbag setup, ensuring both the driver and front passenger are protected.

One standout feature of the Youth Edition is fast charging. This feature was first introduced on the Mini EV in the 2024 Macron version towards the end of 2023.

As a 215 km range variant of the Mini EV, the car is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery pack. Fast charging enables the vehicle to charge from 30 to 80% in just 35 minutes. It includes two charging ports, one for fast charging and the other for standard charging, located in the front grille.

The new model utilizes a 30 kW electric motor positioned at the rear, generating up to 92 Nm of torque. The top speed remains limited to 100 km/h, and there is no specified time for reaching this speed.

The Youth Edition’s dimensions remain almost unchanged at 3064 mm in length, 1493 mm in width, and 1614 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2010 mm. However, its height is slightly lower than the 1629 mm of the 2024 versions.

To end 2023, according to EV Volumes—a global electric vehicle data platform published by Clean Technica—the Wuling Mini EV maintained its position as the best-selling small electric car globally. From its launch in July 2020 until the end of 2023, the Wuling Mini EV consistently achieved the highest sales figures in the mini electric car segment.

Despite being marketed as the most affordable electric car on the market, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV’s sales performance in the Vietnamese market fell short of expectations.

One of the biggest factors deterring consumers from purchasing the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is the lack of charging stations. While electric vehicles are gaining global traction, the infrastructure supporting Chinese electric cars in Vietnam remains underdeveloped.

This concern extends to both long-distance travel and daily commutes, especially for individuals without access to home charging solutions.
