The Danang People’s Committee has recently submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport, requesting feedback on the pre-feasibility study report for the Danang Railway Station relocation project. This feedback will serve as a basis for completing and submitting proposals to the appropriate authorities in the next step.
The city’s administration also requested the Ministry of Transport to guide them through the procedures and provide support in approaching the Prime Minister for approval to implement the project.
In the pre-feasibility study report, the Danang People’s Committee proposed a two-phase approach for the Danang Railway Station relocation project.
Phase 1 aims to relocate the Danang railway station to a new location, facilitating the redevelopment of the inner-city urban area. During this phase, the existing railway orientation within Danang city will be maintained. The branch railway line from Thanh Khe roundabout to Thanh Khe station, leading to Danang station, will be converted into an urban railway.
The project will involve constructing a new passenger terminal, approximately 4.2 km away from the current Danang station towards Hanoi. The new station will be located on the existing railway at Ho Trung Nghia Lake (in front of the Thanh Khe roundabout) in Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district.
The passenger terminal will cover an area of about 3,000 square meters and rise to ten stories, accommodating passenger handling and reception. Additionally, the project will include the development of a station square integrated with the city’s West Lake park, providing connectivity to surrounding streets.

The current Danang station proposed for relocation.
The station square, combined with the park, will span approximately 14,000 square meters. Also included in Phase 1 is the upgrade and renovation of the existing Kim Lien station in Hiep Hoa Bac ward, Lien Chieu district, into a sectional station for cargo handling. This station will facilitate the transportation of goods to and from Danang, with a handling capacity of about 500,000 tons per year.
The estimated total investment for Phase 1 of the Danang Railway Station relocation project is VND 2,293 billion, including VND 781 billion for site clearance and VND 1,190 billion for construction and equipment…
The Danang People’s Committee proposed implementing Phase 1 of the Danang Railway Station relocation project from 2024 to 2030, with the construction phase lasting from Q3 2026 to 2030. The new passenger railway station is expected to be operational until 2050.

The project is estimated to cost VND 9,045 billion. Illustrative image.
In Phase 2, the project will involve relocating the railway station and railway lines in the Danang area according to the master plan. The highlight of this phase is the construction of a new passenger terminal in Hoa Son ward, Hoa Vang district, Danang city. This terminal will include a national railway station and a high-speed railway station on the North-South axis.
The estimated cost for Phase 2 of the project is VND 3,812 billion.
The Current Danang Station to Develop in the TOD and CBD Direction
According to the master plan for Danang city for the period of 2021 – 2030, with a vision towards 2050, relocating the Danang station and constructing a new railway station in the north of the intersection between Ba Na – Suoi Mo road and the expressway in Hoa Son ward, Hoa Vang district, is proposed. The current site of the Danang station will be redeveloped into a public transport hub, integrating commercial and service development following the TOD and CBD orientation.
TOD, or Transit-Oriented Development, is an urban development model centered around public transport. CBD, or Central Business District, refers to the central area of major cities or areas with the highest accessibility.

Danang is planned to have two MRT lines, 11 LRT lines, and three LRT tourist lines.
Additionally, the plan includes constructing the West Ring Road 1 between the West Ring Road and the expressway, as well as studying and building a tunnel through the airport to connect the east and west sides. New roads will be built to connect Lien Chieu port to the south tunnel bypass of Hai Van – Tuy Loan, a road from the West Ring Road to the La Son – Tuy Loan expressway (behind the High-Tech Park), connecting Nguyen Sinh Sac street to the extended Hoang Van Thai street, and from the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park to the new railway station, forming a major axis connecting the east and west of the city.
Danang is set to develop two MRT lines, 11 LRT lines, and three LRT tourist lines or equivalent modes of transport with comparable capacity and speed. Some LRT lines will utilize and expand the existing North-South national railway corridor (after relocating the current railway station out of the city center) while simultaneously redeveloping the urban area along the LRT corridor following the TOD model.
There are also plans to construct a public transport line (urban railway or equivalent) connecting Danang city with Hoi An city (in Quang Nam province) and Lang Co town (in Thua Thien – Hue province).
