**Vietnam’s Road Administration Proposes Highway Network Expansion for Government Approval**
The Vietnam Road Administration has recently proposed to the Ministry of Transport to consider submitting to the Government for approval adjustments to the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050.
For highways with high traffic volume and transportation demand, the Vietnam Road Administration suggests changes in scale. These include expanding the Phap Van (Hanoi) – Phu Thu (Ha Nam) section from 8 to 10-12 lanes, the Ben Luc (Long An) – Trung Luong (Ho Chi Minh City) section from 6 to 10-12 lanes, the Can Tho – Ca Mau section from 4 to 6 lanes, and the Noi Bai – Bac Ninh – Ha Long section from 4 to 6 lanes.
The administration also proposes the addition of two new highways to the master plan: the Ca Mau – Dat Mui highway, approximately 90km long with 4 lanes, expected to be invested in after 2030; and the Quang Ngai – Kon Tum highway, about 136km long with 4 lanes, planned for investment before 2030.

The Phap Van – Phu Thu highway is proposed to be expanded from 8 to 10-12 lanes.
Additionally, adjustments to the boundaries of several highways have been suggested, including the Ninh Binh – Hai Phong highway, with the starting point changed to Yen Mo district, south of Ninh Binh city, extending the length to 117km. The Cam Lo – Lao Bao highway’s starting point is proposed to be shifted to Trieu Phong district, lengthening it to 56km. The Quy Nhon – Pleiku highway’s starting point is suggested to be altered to An Nhon town, Binh Dinh province, measuring 123km. Lastly, the Ho Chi Minh City – Moc Bai highway’s endpoint is proposed to be changed to Ben Cau district, Tay Ninh province.
If approved, Vietnam’s highway network will encompass 43 routes with a total length of approximately 9,177km, adding two new routes and 163km to the current master plan. The adjustments include approximately 6,754km of highways to be invested in before 2030, an increase of about 633km, and 2,480km to be invested in after 2030.
