In an effort to ensure food safety during the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hanoi, Team 5 of the city’s Market Management Department launched a campaign in collaboration with local police and health authorities. The joint effort aimed to inspect and strictly handle illegal trading and sales of smuggled and untraceable goods for the festival.

Thousands of smuggled Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes were discovered.

In a short period of intensified market inspections for the festival, Team 5 discovered and took action against numerous violations. Nearly 5,000 smuggled mooncakes, worth almost VND 50 million, were seized and will be destroyed.

On August 22, Team 11, in collaboration with the Ha Dong District Police, inspected a food business location at 47 Ngo 10, Nguyen Van Loc Street, Mo Lao Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi.

The inspection team discovered 1,408 mooncakes and 1,210 packs of cigarettes (1 pack = 20 cigarettes). All of these items were produced abroad and lacked proper documentation to prove their legal origin.

Team 11 has temporarily confiscated these goods for further legal proceedings.

Previously, on August 20, authorities inspected 26 boxes of mooncakes at 338 Tran Khat Chan, Thanh Nhan Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, owned by Mr. Trinh Van Truong, born in 1992. Team 5 seized a total of 2,496 mooncakes, as the owner could not produce valid invoices or documents proving the legality of the goods. The case is currently under further investigation.

On August 16, officials inspected 20 cardboard boxes containing mooncakes belonging to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, located on Tay Ket Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi. Team 5 seized 900 mooncakes of various types, worth over VND 9.3 million, due to a lack of valid invoices or documents.

According to the leader of Team 5, the unit will continue to strengthen its management of the area and coordinate with relevant forces to inspect and control the market. This will help timely detect and prevent violations, especially for goods with high consumer demand during the Mid-Autumn Festival, thereby ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
