On the afternoon of August 25, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with Australian Senate President Sue Lines.

At the talks, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that there remains ample potential and scope for cooperation between the two countries. He proposed enhancing high-level and other delegation exchanges; coordinating to build an Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2024-2028 period; and focusing on promoting people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation between localities and friendship organizations of the two countries.
The two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the Vietnam-Australia Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy, aiming to increase two-way trade to 20 billion USD and double two-way investment in the coming time. They also consented to boost trade promotion activities and business connections between the two countries’ exporting enterprises.
Particularly, they should expand investment in areas that Vietnam is prioritizing and Australia has strengths in, such as high technology, innovation, clean energy, renewable energy, mining, infrastructure, telecommunications, services, tourism, and high-tech agriculture. Australia expressed its desire to cooperate with Vietnam in the field of offshore wind power.

The National Assembly Chairman requested Australia to continue maintaining and increasing ODA capital for Vietnam in the fields of human resources development, especially in the semiconductor industry, public administration, public policy building, and macro-finance.
On this issue, the Australian Senate President shared that Australia commits to increasing ODA capital for Vietnam, with a sum of 95.7 million Australian dollars (AUD), to support Vietnam’s trade and economic development goals. She also requested Vietnam to simplify the approval procedures for ODA so that Australia can soon deploy the capital in Vietnam.

Vietnam hopes that Australia will support the implementation of the program to respond to climate change and develop sustainable livelihoods for the Mekong Delta, address drought in the Central Highlands, and cope with drought and saline intrusion in the Central and Southern regions.
Regarding education and training, the two sides agreed to enhance the exchange of students, trainees, and lecturers and promote scientific research cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries.
The two countries will promote tourism cooperation in various forms, such as opening new direct air routes and striving to bring each other into the group of leading tourist markets.
Vietnam appreciates Australia’s stance and requests Australia to continue close coordination and support for Vietnam’s principled position and that of ASEAN in ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the South China Sea, as well as peacefully resolving disputes based on respect for international law.
Regarding cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the two sides are actively coordinating to implement the Cooperation Agreement between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Parliament of Australia signed in 2022, maintaining consultations, and supporting each other at multilateral parliamentary forums.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested exchanging information and sharing experiences in organizing parliamentary activities, especially in institution building, perfecting the legal system, and supervising the implementation of laws.
The National Assembly Chairman also requested that Australia continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Australia to live, work, and study, as well as facilitate Vietnamese language teaching in schools with many Vietnamese students.
