Dak Lak, the province with the second-largest durian area and output in Vietnam, is gearing up to meet the requirements for exporting durians to China as the Protocol takes effect.
With nearly 33,000 hectares of durian trees, Dak Lak yields over 280,000 tons of durians annually. The province boasts 23 packing facilities and 68 growing areas with codes for exporting fresh durians to China. The signing of the Protocol between Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China on exporting frozen durians to China presents new opportunities for the Vietnamese durian industry, particularly in Dak Lak.

The official permission to export frozen durians to China will significantly enhance the value of Vietnamese durian products.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong, Director of the Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export of frozen durians to China will diversify processing forms, reduce harvest pressure, and increase the value of the durian industry.
“With its large durian output, Dak Lak will have a great opportunity to develop the frozen durian sector in the coming time,” said Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong.
Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh, Vice Chairman of the Krong Pak People’s Committee, the so-called “durian capital” of Dak Lak, excitedly shared that the locality is ready to meet the conditions for exporting frozen durian products to the Chinese market.
“When the Protocol takes effect, Krong Pak, together with specialized agencies, will closely coordinate with enterprises and investors to ensure export criteria, not only for frozen durian arils but also for frozen whole fruits, to affirm our brand,” said Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with the signed Protocol, Vietnam’s frozen durian exports to China are expected to reach USD 300 million by 2025.
