A recent survey by SellCell revealed that 62% of participants desired one of the iPhone 16 versions. However, Apple Intelligence wasn’t their primary purchasing factor.
SellCell surveyed over 2,000 iPhone users, finding that 61.9% intended to purchase the iPhone 16 in September. Notably, 82.1% didn’t consider the absence of Apple Intelligence at launch a significant issue. Apple will introduce AI features post-iPhone 16 release, starting with iOS 18.1 and subsequent updates.
Here are the reasons users cited for considering the iPhone 16 purchase:
– Price (30.9%)
– New cooling design (26.9%)
– Other factors:
+ Apple Intelligence (21.9%)
+ New A-series chip (21.5%)
+ New Capture button, screen size, WiFi 7, vertical camera, etc. (less important)
Apple Intelligence ranked third at 21.9%, slightly ahead of the faster A-series chip. Interestingly, the new Capture button only scored 17.7%, with the larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro and the Action button taking precedence.
The final three factors in the top 10 included Wi-Fi 7, vertical camera for non-Pro models, and new color options for the iPhone 16.
Apple will undoubtedly leverage Apple Intelligence as a key marketing strategy for the iPhone 16 series. The vibrant AI capabilities are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, prompting iPhone 14 users to upgrade to access this feature. However, this doesn’t seem to entice customers, failing to make it into their top priorities.
The lukewarm response to AI suggests that Apple Intelligence isn’t a pivotal factor in purchase decisions. Two more critical factors were identified: price and the rumored cooling design of the iPhone 16, accounting for 30.9% and 26.9% of consumer interest, respectively.
In another question, 54.9% of respondents desired larger screens, as rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. The remaining participants felt their current iPhone was already too large (33%) or preferred to wait for a more compact iPhone option (12.1%).
