The official inauguration of the 500 kV national power transmission line, Circuit 3, on August 29, marked a significant milestone in Vietnam’s energy infrastructure development. Spanning a distance of 519 km from Quang Trach district in Quang Binh province to Pho Noi in Hung Yen province, the project was completed in just over seven months with an estimated investment of VND22.3 trillion ($896.8 million). This new power line plays a crucial role in ensuring national energy security and enhancing the transmission capacity of Vietnam’s power system, providing much-needed electricity to the northern region during the peak demand period of 2024 and beyond.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vietnam’s top leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the main venue in Hung Yen province, along with Deputy Prime Ministers Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, and Ho Duc Phoc at separate venues in Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh provinces, respectively. This project is a testament to the country’s commitment to strengthening its energy infrastructure and ensuring a reliable power supply for its growing economy and population.
Prime Minister demands completion of 500kV power line by June 2024
The Government’s leadership requires the Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with relevant units to guide, instruct, and support EVN in implementing and accelerating the progress of the 500kV Quang Trach – Pho Noi power line project for the northern region, aiming to complete and energize it by June 2024.
