To mark the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (1976-2024) and 11 years of strategic partnership (2013-2024), from August 28-29, 2024, the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Thailand in Vietnam, organized the 2nd “Thailand Meets You” conference in Lao Cai province.

The event series aimed to operationalize the “Three Connections” strategy, approved by the high-level leaders of Vietnam and Thailand. The strategy includes connecting supply chains in mutually supportive industries; connecting grassroots economies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises with localities; and connecting sustainable development strategies between Thailand’s bio-economy, circular economy, and green economy policies and Vietnam’s green development strategy.

The “Thailand Meets You” conference in Lao Cai was attended by 400 delegates, including the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam, leaders from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and central ministries and sectors, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, leaders of Lao Cai province, and representatives from agencies, organizations, businesses, and investors from both within and outside the country.

The conference received attention and participation from 14 localities, businesses, and business associations in the northern mountainous region, as well as some localities with friendly cooperative relations with Thai localities. This event also created an opportunity for Vietnamese and Thai localities and businesses to meet, exchange ideas, and seek investment and business cooperation opportunities in potential fields of the two countries.

The seminar on “Connecting Lao Cai and Thailand” was held on the afternoon of August 28 to discuss cooperation opportunities between Thai businesses and Lao Cai province.
Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam, spoke positively about the advantages that Lao Cai offers to Thai businesses.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Lao Cai, expressed his hope that Thai businesses would further invest in key fields in Lao Cai.

Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hieu, Director General of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the strong relationship between Thailand and Vietnam and the opportunities for Thailand to further enhance cooperation with Vietnam.
Mr. Vu Xuan Cuong, Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council of Lao Cai, affirmed that with the motto ‘business prosperity, Lao Cai development; business unity, government accompaniment’, Lao Cai always welcomes Thai investors.

During the conference, the Lao Cai Business Association signed a memorandum of understanding with the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ThaiCham) to create a solid foundation for expanding and developing cooperation opportunities between Thai and Lao Cai businesses in the near future.

As part of the 2nd “Thailand Meets You” event series in Lao Cai, the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province, in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Thailand in Vietnam, organized the opening of the Thailand-Vietnam Product Showcase. This event attracted the participation of numerous businesses from 14 localities across Vietnam, including enterprises from Lao Cai.

The opening ceremony aimed to provide businesses with a platform to introduce and promote the characteristic products of the two countries, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and expanding business cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Thailand. The event served not only as a commercial exchange but also as a cultural bridge, strengthening economic and social cooperation between the two nations.
