On August 29th, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Public Security announced the discovery of five individuals who used computer networks, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices to commit fraud and appropriate assets from over 400 people.
Prior to this, numerous victims had reported to the Da Nang City Public Security that their Facebook accounts had been hacked. The perpetrators then impersonated the victims to deceive their acquaintances into transferring money to them.
The Criminal Police Department of Da Nang Public Security identified a group of individuals from Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces who were renting a house in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City. These individuals frequently visited internet cafes in the area to carry out their criminal activities.
On August 28th, after gathering sufficient evidence, the Criminal Police Department conducted simultaneous searches at four locations in Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra, and Hai Chau districts. They summoned five individuals for questioning at the office. The group consisted of Le Cong Phi (21 years old), from Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district; Nguyen Khuynh (21 years old), from Tan Long commune, Huong Hoa district; Le Thi Ngoc A. (21 years old), from ward 2, Quang Tri town; Nguyen Thanh H. (21 years old), from Quang Tri town, Quang Tri province; and Le Tran Tan D. (21 years old), from Nghia Dung commune, Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province. These individuals frequently visited Internet cafes in Da Nang to carry out their fraudulent activities.

During the interrogation, the individuals initially admitted to their crimes. According to the initial investigation, from August 2023 to the present, this group has defrauded approximately 400 victims nationwide, appropriating a total amount of over 1.2 billion VND. All the appropriated money was used for their personal expenses.
In the afternoon of August 29, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang Public Security issued an order to detain two individuals, Nguyen Khuynh and Le Cong Phi (21 years old, both from Quang Tri province), in an emergency case. Three other individuals were released on bail while the authorities continue to consolidate evidence for handling in accordance with regulations.
