As of 3 pm on September 8, EVN reported that the hydroelectric power sources in the northern region are operating normally, with some reservoirs discharging water as directed by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, and the provincial-level Steering Committees.
Regarding the high-voltage power grid: The 500kV power grid experienced nine incidents, three of which have been resolved; the 220kV power grid had 34 incidents, 21 of which have been addressed; and the 110kV power grid encountered 99 incidents, 52 of which have been rectified.
For the medium and low-voltage power grids, strong winds and storms caused numerous incidents affecting power lines and distribution substations. As of 3 pm on September 8, the number of customers without power in several northern provinces and cities included: Quang Ninh (approximately 80%), Hai Phong (85%), Hai Duong (60%), Hung Yen (11%), Bac Giang (35%), Thai Binh (70%), and Hoa Binh (22%).
The power companies are focusing on inspecting, identifying, and isolating the issues to gradually restore power to critical loads, including city, town, and market centers, as well as pumping stations. EVN and its subsidiaries are making every effort to provide power to the remaining loads as soon as possible while ensuring safety.
Mr. Vu The Nam, a member of the Board of Members of the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), stated that EVNNPC has mobilized all on-site forces, assault forces from less affected units, and support from the Northern Power Experiment Company and the Northern Power Service Company to assist heavily impacted units.
They are also closely coordinating with construction units to promptly deploy resources to fix the issues with the highest determination to restore power to customers as soon as feasible.
In localities like Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Thai Binh, immediately after the storm subsided, the power companies’ employees braved the rain and wind to inspect and restore power to substations that met safety requirements.
As one of the most severely affected units by Storm No. 3, Mr. Nguyen Huu Huong, Chairman and General Director of Hai Phong Power Company Limited (PC Hai Phong), shared that the storm hit Hai Phong at noon on September 7, resulting in a citywide power outage by 2 pm that day.
Thanks to thorough preparations, PC Hai Phong and the National Power Transmission Corporation No. 1 promptly cooperated to restore three 220kV substations by 8 pm that night. Subsequently, they successfully restored power to six 110kV substations by 3:30 am on September 8 and resumed 20 medium-voltage lines, providing electricity to over 100,000 customers in the inner city by 4 am.
PC Hai Phong has mobilized over 1,000 employees from district and county power companies and the High Voltage Experiment Company to identify fault areas and strive to restore power to customers.
In addition, the company is collaborating with contractors to address the issues as swiftly and safely as possible to resume power supply to the people.
Operating under the principle of restoring power immediately wherever conditions permit, PC Hai Phong is racing against time to provide electricity to customers as soon as possible, helping stabilize their lives and daily activities in the aftermath of the storm.
