Saigon Co.op Steps Up to Support Northern Provinces with Essential Supplies

As the remnants of Typhoon Yagi, the third storm of the season, wreaked havoc across northern provinces, Saigon Co.op stepped up to the challenge. In collaboration with local authorities in provinces where Co.opmart and Co.op Food are present, we worked tirelessly to regulate and stabilize prices of essential goods. Our efforts ensured a steady supply of these necessities for the affected communities.

Saigon Co.op has been actively working with business partners to share profits and offer exclusive deep discounts for the Northern market, contributing to market stabilization and calming customers and residents. There are currently 11 Co.opmarts and 28 Co.op Foods in this area (in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, and Phu Tho).

Mr. Vu Anh Khoa, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saigon Co.op, has instructed the entire system to “Actively and promptly follow the directions and appeals of the Central and Ho Chi Minh City leaders, as well as local authorities. With our sentiments, responsibilities, and reputation, Saigon Co.op is committed to sharing and supporting the affected provinces and cities in the Northern flood-prone areas. We will immediately increase the supply of essential goods, especially food, consumer goods, vegetables, fruits, and other daily necessities at stabilized prices – the best we can offer, even below cost – while ensuring food safety and hygiene for supermarkets and stores in the North. We are united in ensuring sufficient goods and stable prices to meet the daily needs of the people. The Coop.mart supermarkets, Co.op Food stores, and Northern Distribution Center proactively collaborate with local authorities and organizations to ensure a stable supply of goods for customers and residents. We are also ready to transport goods to highland, remote, and difficult-to-reach areas as requested. The entire system has launched a fundraising campaign to support the people in the flood-affected regions.”

Consequently, in Bac Giang, Phu Tho, and Hai Phong (the three most affected localities), Co.opmart has creatively utilized the supermarket lobby as a space for people to charge their phones and provided free drinking water. Notably, Co.opmart also opened its doors to welcome people seeking shelter from the storms and floods. The Co.op Cares program distributed 1,000 packages to those in need in the above-mentioned three localities. Each package contained essential items such as rice, instant noodles, bottled water, canned goods, and dried food, tailored to the actual situation.

Saigon Co.op, in collaboration with the Red Cross and other charitable organizations, delivered thousands of packages containing essential goods to areas affected by floods and landslides. In localities with Co.opmart stores, our staff are ready to work with local authorities and organizations to design essential support packages and participate in or organize relief trips to support households.

Saigon Co.op has swiftly increased the stockpile of goods for the Northern region, several times more than usual. The Northern Distribution Center of Saigon Co.op, located in Bac Ninh, is operating in the most urgent state, with extended work hours to ensure 24/7 operations. Its mission is to manage and coordinate the transportation of goods. Saigon Co.op has urgently redirected vehicles from other centers to exclusively serve the Northern market. In addition to specialized and insulated trucks, the Distribution Center has also flexibly utilized lightweight trucks to navigate the flooded roads.

Fruits and vegetables are the most weather-sensitive commodities, so Saigon Co.op has increased the supply from Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Dalat, and some provinces in the Mekong Delta. Hundreds of tons of fruits and vegetables from farms, cooperatives, and businesses will be continuously transported from the South to the North. The Co.opmart system guides meat suppliers to deliver their products directly to supermarkets to maintain freshness.

At each sales point, Co.opmart has extended its operating hours and only closes when the last customer leaves. Co.opmart staff are present at the product lines, cashiers, and warehouses to assist customers with their shopping. Online orders (through the Co.oponline website and hotline 1900555568) are arranged for delivery on the same day, if possible. For areas with disrupted transportation, Co.opmart communicates with customers to find the most convenient delivery solutions.

Saigon Co.op continues to closely monitor weather conditions and market trends, focusing all its forces on ensuring a stable supply of goods and price stability. We are committed to providing rapid assistance and sharing the burden of caring for the lives of people in disaster-affected areas. We aim to fulfill our political tasks and uphold the noble principle of “One for all, and all for one” as a typical collective economic model. Together, we will help the people of the Northern provinces overcome difficulties and quickly restore production and stability after the natural disaster.
