The Vietnam Digital Transformation Awards are an annual event hosted by the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA) under the patronage of the Ministry of Information and Communications, with VietTimes Electronic Journal as the implementing organizer. The awards honor outstanding digital transformation achievements of state agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals, promoting the national digital transformation journey. After five months of campaigning and receiving nearly 400 entries, the Vietnam Digital Transformation Awards 2024 jury has selected 45 organizations with exemplary digital transformation applications serving the community.
This year, Military Insurance excelled in the competition, surpassing two rounds of selection, and was honored in the Excellent Digital Transformation Enterprise category. They achieved this recognition with their MIC app – a super app for insurance customers, the MIC Pro app for their sales force and digital agents, and their core technology capabilities applied in practice to improve labor productivity and significantly support their current business operations.
MIC is proud to be a pioneer in the non-life insurance market, investing comprehensively and methodically in a digital strategy targeting various customer segments. Since 2021, when social distancing measures were implemented, MIC has been quick to adapt and accelerate its digital activities. This readiness has allowed them to keep up with market trends and changing customer behaviors, earning the trust of their customers and industry recognition, including impressive business results and prestigious awards. Even before that, in 2019, MIC had started issuing electronic certificates for motor vehicle insurance. MIC understands that digital transformation is no longer just a trend but a mandatory element for business survival in the digital age, much like electricity. As such, MIC has taken the initiative to be a pioneer in this field, investing adequately to implement a synchronized and comprehensive digital transformation across all activities, from product development to management and operations.
MIC focuses on developing a digital technology platform by adopting advanced technology solutions such as ECM, BPM, and Microservices as the foundation for transforming their business operations. This transformation extends beyond business activities and into human resource management, with the introduction of an HRM system and a digital training center, the E-learning platform, providing superior experiences for their employees.
In 2023, MIC also concentrated on modern governance practices, adopting management by objectives (MBO) and combining it with the most effective goal and performance management model, BSC – KPI, and OKR. With their comprehensive technological investments and improvements in customer experience, Military Insurance has refined the MIC app, considered a miniature insurance superstore packed with smart features. The app integrates automatic compensation technology that doesn’t require original paperwork, alleviating customers’ worries about documentation and saving significant time in the claims process.
Currently, the automatic compensation feature on the MIC app enables customers to proactively file claims through the app, utilizing advanced technologies such as AI and OCR (optical character recognition). Customers can capture real-time images of loss locations, applicable in two cases: when the loss site is still present and when it is no longer present. Additionally, customers can independently monitor the entire claims handling process step by step, without waiting or submitting original documents.
The MIC app offers customers a “digitalized” service experience, providing quick access and simple operations with countless conveniences: online insurance purchases, MIC network lookups, garage and medical facility searches in case of emergencies, easy management of purchase history and insurance certificates, and proactive renewal reminders. Additionally, with just a few simple steps, vehicle owners can confidently file claims anytime, anywhere, ensuring a peaceful journey with MIC by their side. The convenience of the MIC app completely transforms customers’ perceptions of insurance procedures, making claim processes easier than ever with its online submission feature.
Military Insurance focuses on investing in modern technology, pioneering the application of insurtech to enhance customer experiences. In a short period, the MIC app has consistently ranked among the top downloaded insurance apps on both IOS and Android platforms.
The Digital Transformation Enterprise Award recognizes Military Insurance’s efforts in its digital transformation strategy in recent years and its goal of becoming one of the Top 3 Non-life Insurance Companies by 2026.

The Power of Insurance: A Lesson from Katrina for Vietnam’s Resilience Against Storms
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the United States, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. With wind speeds exceeding 175 km/h, the storm caused immense damage, claiming the lives of over 1,800 people and resulting in economic losses of a staggering $120 billion. The impact of the hurricane was felt across the nation, with insurance companies paying out more than $40 billion to help those affected rebuild their lives and recover their assets. As the chief economist of ADB Vietnam highlighted, the storm’s aftermath led to a significant insurance payout, providing much-needed financial support to those who had lost so much.
