According to a recent calculation by Casper Vietnam, users may only need to spend less than 200 VND on electricity costs per laundry load when using a washing machine.
Specifically, some energy-efficient washing machines today have an energy efficiency index of 8.2 Wh/h. If users wash according to the machine’s designated load capacity (e.g., 10.5 kg) and electricity costs are calculated based on the residential electricity rate of 1,956 VND/kW, the electricity cost for one wash cycle is only 168 VND.
Of course, this is an idealized calculation, and actual consumption may vary, but even so, the electricity cost of using a washing machine is certainly much lower than many people imagine.
“This is quite a surprising number for consumers who are still hesitant to use washing machines for fear of high electricity costs and continue to hand-wash during the winter, which is predicted to have periods of colder and more humid weather than previous years. Energy-efficient washing machines with affordable ownership costs help users, especially women, mothers, and wives in the family, free their hands and backs, giving them more time for themselves and their families,” said Mr. Tran Van Can, Head of Product Planning at Casper Vietnam.
This news could be a welcome development for many families, especially considering that the winter of 2024 is expected to bring complex weather conditions, affecting laundry and overall living conditions.
Specifically, according to forecasts by expert Huy Nguyen (with nearly 20 years of experience working for international organizations as a senior advisor on climate change and disaster prevention), 2024 is a year of transition from El Nino to a neutral phase, with a high likelihood of transitioning to La Nina in November 2024, with a probability of 70%.
“This winter, during periods of cold air intrusion, the Northern and North-Central regions will be colder than average for the same period in previous years by 0.5 – 0.75 degrees Celsius. According to the law of phase transition, there will be extremely cold days with severe and harsh cold spells in the mountainous provinces of the North,” shared Mr. Huy Nguyen.
In addition to colder and more humid weather during certain periods, having to sit and hand-wash laundry for the entire family in a fixed position for extended periods will undoubtedly have adverse effects on the spine and hands of women, according to health experts. This can lead to spinal and joint problems.
This is also why the washing machine market in Vietnam is considered potential, with an average consumption of 1.7 million washing machines/dryers per year, of which the demand for washing machines accounts for 75%.
According to a report by Statista, the Vietnamese washing machine market has an annual growth rate of 4.43% (CAGR 2024-2029), which is expected to result in 2.2 million units by 2029. The growth drivers are the increasing urbanization and improved living standards of the population.
Understanding this need, the Thai brand Casper has just launched a large-capacity washing machine line of 9-10.5 kg for families with many members. Accordingly, with prices starting from VND 4.9 million for top-loading washing machines and VND 6.4 million for front-loading washing machines, Vietnamese users can now own a 9-10.5 kg washing machine – a price that is 10-15% lower than the current market average.
The EcoWash+ 2024 washing machine line, with two models, WF-95VG5 (9.5 kg) and WF-105VG5 (10.5 kg), is equipped with an inverter motor for smooth, durable, and super energy-efficient operation. It also features SteamWash technology, which helps sterilize and remove allergens while providing a deep clean for clothes.
The product offers 16 operating programs to suit various laundry needs, such as quick wash, baby clothes wash, hot water wash, sportswear wash, and more. The washing machine also integrates Fuzzy Logi inference technology, allowing water volume adjustment according to the amount of laundry, thus saving water while ensuring effective cleaning.
For front-loading EcoWash+ 2024 washing machines of 10 kg and above, the manufacturer offers a 20-year warranty on the motor, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to product quality and longevity.
“We want to convey a positive message to users by offering a longer warranty period than the market average. Casper is committed to ensuring product quality and longevity and is ready to provide after-sales service and support to consumers for many years,” affirmed the representative of Casper Vietnam.

“The Manufacturing Electricity Conundrum: 52% Price Parity and Apathy’s Toll on Energy Conservation”
The production electricity rate during normal hours only accounts for 84-92% of the average rate, while off-peak hours account for just 52-59%. With such low electricity costs, energy conservation has not been a significant concern for manufacturing businesses.
