In the second month of the promotion, a 50% discount on registration fees for domestically produced and assembled cars was offered, and some car models quickly took advantage of this opportunity to boost their sales. Two of these models belong to the D-segment crossover group, including the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Territory.
Specifically, the Mazda CX-5 recorded a sales figure of 2,008 units, ranking second in the market. Meanwhile, the Ford Territory also witnessed a significant surge in sales, reaching 1,173 units. Cumulatively, for the first ten months of the year, the Mazda CX-5 has sold over 11,200 units, outpacing its rivals and is highly likely to become the “king of the segment” for the second consecutive year.

The Ford Territory, on the other hand, has sold over 6,200 units, creating a gap of more than 1,000 units compared to its closest competitor, the Honda CR-V.
Two South Korean models in this segment, the Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage, demonstrated their weaker performance with sales figures of just over 4,000 and 2,300 units, respectively, for the ten-month period. The remaining model, the Mitsubishi Outlander, has never been a strong competitor in this segment.
A glance at the range of vehicles in the C-segment crossover category provides some insight into the preferences of Vietnamese consumers during this period. Both the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Territory feature neutral designs that cater to both male and female customers. These two models also offer relatively affordable price points.
The Mazda CX-5 is competitively priced, starting at just 749 million VND and going up to 829 million VND. The Ford Territory, on the other hand, starts at 799 million VND but currently benefits from a 50% discount on registration fees (in addition to the government’s fee reduction).

The Mazda CX-5 is poised to retain its title as the “king” of the C-segment crossover market in Vietnam.
The Honda CR-V is considered the most stylish model in the segment following its upgrade last year, which included the introduction of an AWD version and a hybrid engine option. However, its high price remains a barrier for consumers, with a starting price of over 1 billion VND and a top-end model nearing 1.3 billion VND.
The underperformance of the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage in this segment also reflects the recent loss of momentum for South Korean cars in the Vietnamese market.
Nowadays, South Korean cars primarily maintain their dominance in the market’s cheapest segment, the hatchback A-segment. In many other crucial segments, models from Hyundai and Kia no longer hold the leading market positions they once did.
The New Tax Brings Tears of Joy and Sorrow: A Tale of Savings and Missed Opportunities
With the recent announcement of reduced registration fees for a three-month period, a section of consumers has had mixed reactions. While some rejoice, glad that their patience has paid off, others rue the timing as they had just completed the necessary procedures at the original rate.
