Symbol of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Bridge

Fifteen years ago, Koh Ke Village, Kulen District, Preah Vihear Province, was one of the poorest and sparsely populated areas in Cambodia with just 40 households, no electricity, and little to no access to telecommunications.

Today, farmers in this region can stay connected with their families and even make video calls while working in the fields far from home.

We are delighted that Metfone has brought mobile network coverage to our village. It’s a miracle. Thank you, Metfone!

” said Say Veasna, a resident of Koh Ke Village.

Say Veasna’s gratitude reflects the sentiments of not just the people of Koh Ke Village but also millions of Cambodians across the country. Metfone’s aggressive investments have directly contributed to Cambodia’s leap from a country with outdated information infrastructure to one of the top nations in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of 4G coverage.

The 500 mobile transmission stations that Metfone has established in remote, geographically challenging areas, including border regions and islands, also play a crucial role in safeguarding the neighboring country’s border security.

Both Viettel Group and Metfone operate with the philosophy of “Business accompanied by social responsibility.” They strive to do what is best and most sincere for the Cambodian people, going beyond mere profit-seeking. Through the telecommunications and information technology infrastructure that Metfone has built, Cambodians can access the latest global conveniences on par with developed nations.

During visits to Metfone by Vietnamese government and state leaders, they highly commended and appreciated the achievements of Metfone. Viettel Cambodia – Metfone has been recognized by the leaders of the Party, State, and Government of both Vietnam and Cambodia as a typical factor contributing to the “good neighborly, traditional friendship, comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term cooperation” relationship between the two countries.

15 Years of Dedication and the Second-Class Labor Order

Viettel has been investing in Cambodia since 2006 and launched the Metfone telecommunications brand in 2009. Over the past 15 years, Metfone has continuously contributed to the economic, political, and social development of Cambodia.

Besides playing a crucial role in major events thanks to its leading telecommunications infrastructure, Metfone is also a strategic partner in national digital transformation projects, collaborating with almost all ministries in the Cambodian government.

In the education sector, the SIS digital education ecosystem supports hundreds of thousands of teachers and students with online learning solutions. For instance, at KpongCham High School in Kpongcham Province, the SIS school management system enabled over 800 teachers and students to maintain their studies remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic without interruption. Thanks to the SIS system, the school has consistently maintained a graduation rate of over 99%.

In the healthcare sector, the PACS data digitization system helps patients and hospitals store and access medical records, improving the quality of medical examinations and treatment. In 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Cambodia before Vietnam, Metfone, with its modern technology, actively accompanied the government and relevant agencies in effectively responding to the pandemic.

Metfone also provides financial convenience to Cambodians through its eMoney e-wallet, enabling 3 million residents to make payments, salary disbursements, and money transfers even in areas without bank access.

Over the past 15 years, Metfone has contributed over $1.05 billion to the Cambodian state budget, ranking among the top five enterprises in terms of tax contributions. The company has also allocated more than $120 million to charitable activities, ranging from providing free internet access to schools to sponsoring healthcare, education, and other vital social programs. Metfone has created 3,000 direct jobs with high incomes and over 30,000 indirect jobs, contributing to improving the lives of Cambodians.

In recognition of these contributions, on November 26, on behalf of the President of Vietnam, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Văn Giang, Politburo member and Minister of Defense, presented the Second-Class Labor Order to Metfone. The General appreciated Metfone’s investment in a village with only 40 families, a place where profits might never be realized, as a commendable and admirable act.

The Second-Class Labor Order is truly deserved for your efforts and contributions during this time. In the context of fierce competition and the strong development of modern science and technology, I hope that you will not be satisfied with the present and will always be worthy of being Uncle Ho’s soldiers, a bridge of economic, social, and political friendship between the two nations.

” – Senior Lieutenant General Phan Văn Giang emphasized.
