Within the framework of the high-level technology workshop “Safe Artificial Intelligence – Shaping Responsible Innovation” recently held in Hanoi, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) announced the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Committee.
The AI Ethics Committee aims to build an AI ecosystem where innovation thrives within ethical boundaries, ensuring global competitiveness and safeguarding social values.
The committee’s mission is to guide the development roadmap of AI in Vietnam, ensuring that AI deployment adheres to ethical standards, with innovation going hand in hand with social benefits, and promoting a favorable legal environment for AI.
In addition to policy development and risk assessment standards, the committee also serves as a bridge for international cooperation and advises the Vietnamese government. The main tasks include developing AI safety standards, risk analysis, and raising awareness about responsible AI.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, Vice Chairman of VINASA and Chairman of the AI Ethics Committee, the frameworks set by the committee are not meant to control but to provide guidance, helping AI maximize its potential. At the same time, the committee works to mitigate negative impacts and create a conducive environment for sustainable technological development that aligns with social values.
In the context of governments and international organizations worldwide prioritizing the establishment of stringent regulations and ethical frameworks for AI, this initiative reflects Vietnam’s strong commitment to joining the global community in addressing the complex challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
Previously, global initiatives such as the EU AI Act, the OECD AI Principles, and UNESCO’s recommendations on ethical AI are setting important standards for transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI governance.
Professor Yoshua Bengio, founder of the Mila AI research institute and known as the “Father of AI” globally, stated, “While we continue to explore the transformative potential of AI, it is crucial to prioritize norms of safety and ethics.”
As one of the leading AI research and development enterprises in Vietnam, FPT has become a founding member of the AI Ethics Committee established by VINASA. Speaking at the event, Dr. Truong Gia Binh, Founder and Chairman of FPT, shared, “The AI Ethics Committee initiated by VINASA is a testament to Vietnam’s vision in taking on a responsible leadership role in the Artificial Intelligence era.”
According to Mr. Binh, in the context of rapid AI development, bringing unprecedented opportunities and challenges, the need for responsible governance is more urgent than ever. By adhering to international standards and collaborating with global innovators, FPT is committed to shaping an AI ecosystem that serves the best interests of humanity while promoting sustainable innovation in Vietnam and worldwide.
