The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has announced that businesses are preparing a capital of approximately VND 23,000 billion for the upcoming Lunar New Year, with VND 8,000 billion allocated for food and essential commodities. The department has also coordinated the organization of 11,000 selling points as part of the price stabilization program.

## BUSY TRADE TO WELCOME THE LUNAR NEW YEAR:
The industry has not only implemented synchronized connections of large-scale programs but also provided consultancy on the market stabilization program, along with consumption stimulus packages and connection programs between the city and provinces.

Specifically, in terms of supply, the department has 69 enterprises participating in the market stabilization program, an increase of 10 enterprises compared to 2024. For the upcoming Lunar New Year, the capital prepared is VND 23,000 billion, including VND 8,000 billion allocated for food and essential commodities.

The department has also coordinated with MVCPRO Company to organize 11,000 selling points for the price stabilization program. This mobile selling program for market stabilization during the Lunar New Year period will take place from December 10, 2024, to January 5, 2025. A special feature of this program is that goods are offered at low prices, with promotions of up to 60% for workers.

The program, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade in collaboration with MVCPRO Company, will be held in seven districts: District 4, District 10, District 11, Phu Nhuan District, District 8, District 3, and Tan Binh District. The program will last for three days in each district.

Seasonal goods such as confectionery, beverages, laundry detergent, shower gel, shampoo, eggs, bird’s nest, vegetarian noodles, beverages, motorcycle engine oil, gas stoves, etc., will be sold at discounts of up to 60%, with promotions like buy one get one free and gifts with purchase. The department expects the program to reach about 500,000 people, attracting more than 100,000 visitors and 50,000 buyers.

According to business households, purchasing power during the Lunar New Year of 2025 is expected to increase by more than 10% compared to the previous year, and there are unlikely to be significant price fluctuations.

## PROMOTING SHOPPING FOR THE LUNAR NEW YEAR:
Many businesses and retail channels have launched promotional programs to encourage shopping during the festive season. Saigon Co.op is welcoming the Lunar New Year with the program “Đến Co.op chở Tết về.” Starting in mid-December 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trade Cooperatives officially displayed more than 100 models of gift baskets at 800 selling points nationwide. These gift baskets elegantly combine tradition and modernity, with prices ranging from VND 99,000 to nearly VND 1,400,000 to cater to diverse needs.

To further excite consumers, Coca-Cola Vietnam has launched a special promotion called “Mở Thùng Tết – Săn Nắp Vàng.” The program offers hundreds of thousands of attractive prizes, including 500 24k gold bottle caps and many lucky money envelopes.

At the same time, to spread the spirit of connection during the Lunar New Year season, Coca-Cola continues to collaborate with the Red Cross for the third year of the “Chợ Tết 0 Đồng” program. With a total value of VND 5 billion in goods, it is estimated that 6,500 households and disadvantaged people in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Long An, and Thua Thien-Hue will be able to shop for essential goods themselves.

In addition, on the occasion of Christmas and the upcoming holidays, the Consulate General of Canada organized a Canadian food and consumer goods promotion event at Lotte Mart in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, and Lotte Mart Tay Ho in Hanoi, from December 13-15, 2024.

This event offered Vietnamese consumers the opportunity to enjoy premium products from Canada at promotional prices. The program was organized in collaboration with Lotte Mart and included the participation of distributors of seafood, ginseng, fruits, vitamins, nutritional products, and beauty products.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program, Ms. Annie Dubé, Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, said that all products introduced in this campaign, including lobster, sole fish, beef, ginseng, peas, maple syrup, healthy nuts, and dietary supplements, benefit from the elimination of tariffs under the CPTPP.

“We are delighted to collaborate with one of Vietnam’s leading food retailers, Lotte Mart. Together with local importers and distributors of Canadian products, we aim to reach more Vietnamese consumers through this campaign,” emphasized Ms. Annie Dubé.

## ONLINE SHOPPING THROUGH E-COMMERCE PLATFORMS IS GROWING STRONG:
Meanwhile, e-commerce platforms such as Tiki, Lazada, Sendo, and Shopee are also preparing their infrastructure for the Lunar New Year shopping season. Supermarket systems and stores have prepared various sales methods through websites, Facebook, Zalo, and e-commerce platforms, continuously updating daily promotions and discounts to attract customers.

Notably, the Saigon Co.op retail system (including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.opFood, and Finelife) also organizes livestream selling, produces short videos on digital platforms, and gives priority to Generation Y and Generation Z customers on these platforms.

Sharing at a press conference on Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic situation on December 12, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, said that the city has become a pioneer in the field of e-commerce in Vietnam.

In 2024, the city’s e-commerce grew by 52%, higher than the national average of 42%, and contributed 33% to the country’s total e-commerce revenue.

According to data updated as of December 10, the number of websites and applications owned by organizations and individuals residing in Ho Chi Minh City and registered with the Ministry of Industry and Trade is also the highest in the country.

This includes 24,829 e-commerce websites (accounting for 47% of the country), 355 websites providing e-commerce services (48% of the country), 305 e-commerce applications (45% of the country), and 165 applications providing e-commerce services (43% of the country).

According to Mr. Hung, the explosion, maintenance, and development of platforms such as Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lazada, and Tiki, along with the growth of supporting services such as logistics, electronic payments, and digital marketing, have created one of the country’s most vibrant e-commerce ecosystems.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City’s technological infrastructure is advanced, with the highest number of Internet subscribers in the country, a high rate of smartphone usage, and a strong telecommunications network.

The municipal Department of Industry and Trade believes that all these factors have facilitated consumers’ access to e-commerce and businesses’ online activities.
