Construction began in 2023 on the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Expressway, an 88-kilometer-long project and the largest of the 12 component projects of the North-South Expressway. With the Project Management Unit 2 as the investor and Deo Ca Group as the leading contractor, this endeavor is undoubtedly a significant undertaking.

The route includes three mountain tunnels, with Tunnel No. 1 measuring 610 meters in length, Tunnel No. 2 stretching 700 meters, and Tunnel No. 3, a special-grade tunnel, an impressive 3,200 meters long. Under the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the project is slated for completion by December 31, 2025, leaving just about 150 days from the time of writing to meet this ambitious deadline.

Deo Ca Group has shared that an incredible 3,100 personnel and 1,150 equipment units are currently working around the clock in 50 construction sites along the route. As of the end of July, the project has achieved a remarkable 10 trillion VND in output, equivalent to 75% of the total volume. This progress is a testament to the dedication and efficiency of the workforce.

The three packages (XL1, XL2, and XL3) are being executed in three shifts and four teams. Despite challenges with land clearance, materials, and weather conditions, many items have progressed ahead of schedule after more than two and a half years of implementation.

Specifically, along the entire route, contractors have paved 70 kilometers of concrete asphalt, and this task is expected to be completed by September, ahead of the schedule outlined in the contract with the investor. Package XL1, spanning 30 kilometers and connecting to the Danang – Quang Ngai Expressway, has seen remarkable progress, with about 27 kilometers of cement-reinforced gravel completed and over 20 kilometers of concrete asphalt laid.

The construction of safety fences along the route is essentially complete, and the installation of guardrails is underway. The production and assembly of traffic safety components have reached approximately 95% of the volume. Of the 77 bridges, the substructure work has been finished, and the beam casting, launching, and deck construction are in progress. The longest bridge on the route, the 600-meter Song Ve Bridge, is nearing completion.

In terms of the mountain tunnels, Tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 (under package XL02) have essentially finished construction and the installation of electromechanical equipment, including jet fans, lighting, sensors, and the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). Both tubes of Tunnel No. 3 have been excavated ahead of schedule, and the contractor is currently working on the tunnel lining and pavement concrete, aiming to complete the concrete lining of the two tubes in October and the entire Tunnel No. 3 by the end of December 2025.

According to Deo Ca Group, the contract with the investor stipulates a completion date of August 2026. However, the contractors are striving to substantially finish the road section by September 30, with Tunnel No. 3 set to be completed by December 31, 2025, an impressive eight months ahead of the contractual schedule.
