On August 10, Sun Phu Quoc Airways, a subsidiary of the Sun Group, took delivery of its first brand-new Airbus A321NX directly from the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft is powered by LEAP-1A engines, offering a 20% fuel efficiency improvement, 50% reduction in COâ‚‚ emissions, and 75% noise reduction compared to previous-generation engines.

The delivery ceremony also marked the unveiling of Sun Phu Quoc Airways’ brand identity. The airline plans to take delivery of eight aircraft in 2025 and commence commercial operations in November 2025, with tickets going on sale in October.

On the same day, Sun Phu Quoc Airways and Vietcombank signed a principle agreement for a financing package, with Vietcombank acting as the lead bank for a credit facility to fund the acquisition of ten Airbus A320/321 NEO aircraft.

Previously, on June 13, the Ministry of Construction granted an air transport business license to Sun Phu Quoc Airways, with a registered capital of VND 2,500 billion. The airline will offer a hybrid business model, combining traditional scheduled services with charter operations, providing full-service, high-quality travel experiences.

With a focus on Phu Quoc as its hub, Sun Phu Quoc Airways aims to connect this beautiful island to key economic and tourist destinations within Vietnam, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang, while also serving other important routes. This network is expected to boost tourism and trade connections between Phu Quoc and other regions.
