According to AutoCar, VinFast has filed a design patent application in India for its Minio Green electric mini car, revealing a new step in its expansion strategy into the South Asian market. This news comes shortly after Indian media outlets discovered the design patent for the 7-seater Limo Green electric car, indicating that the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer is gearing up to launch multiple models targeting various customer segments in India.

If officially introduced, the Minio Green will be the second mini electric car in the Indian market, where the MG Comet EV currently dominates. The latest 2025 MG Comet EV in India offers an attractive starting price of 4.99 lakh Rs (approximately 147 million VND) and features a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a range of 230 km according to MIDC standards.

VinFast’s entry into this segment could spark notable competition in the ultra-small electric vehicle category, which is already deemed promising due to urban mobility needs and the shift towards emission-free transportation.

This move is part of VinFast’s globalization strategy, following its successful entry into markets such as the US, Canada, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The company aims to sell 200,000 vehicles by 2025. With a population of over 1.4 billion people and strong incentives for electric vehicles, India is becoming an attractive destination for electric car manufacturers worldwide.

The Minio Green is a small urban electric car with a 2-door, 4-seater design. Its dimensions are 3,090 mm in length, 1,496 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,065 mm and a ground clearance of 155 mm. Notably, the ground clearance of the Minio Green is higher than some vehicles in higher segments, such as the Toyota Vios, Kia Soluto, and Kia Morning.

The interior features a manually adjustable 4-way driver’s seat. The infotainment system is located behind the steering wheel and includes a large color screen. The audio system has two speakers, and the car has an FM radio but no Bluetooth connectivity. In terms of safety features, the Minio Green is equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, MacPherson suspension at both front and rear, ABS, traction control, and a driver airbag.

VinFast has equipped the Minio Green with an impressive 18.5 kWh battery, enabling a range of up to 210 km on a single charge according to NEDC standards. The 400V electrical-electronic system and electric motor enhance charging efficiency and vehicle performance. Charging the battery from 10% to 70% takes just over 30 minutes. These specifications have been recently upgraded, offering improved performance and convenience for users.

According to VinFast, the development of these additional features will delay vehicle delivery by approximately four months compared to the initial plan. However, VinFast will bear all additional costs arising from technical structure changes, component adjustments, and production plan modifications, ensuring no extra charges for customers. The new delivery schedule for the Minio Green is expected to be December 2025.
