According to WFMJ, earlier this month, 16-year-old Lindsay Leskovac dozed off while driving home at night. Her truck veered off the road and was involved in a severe accident, resulting in multiple fractures for Lindsay, including both legs and her cervical spine, rendering her unconscious.

During the collision, Lindsay’s iPhone automatically activated the Crash Detection feature, promptly dialing 911 and alerting emergency services. This swift action by her phone ensured a timely response from first responders, who arrived at the scene and rushed her to the hospital.
Lindsay’s mother, unaware of this feature prior to the incident, attributed her daughter’s survival to the iPhone. “The firefighter told me that 911 was notified by her phone automatically,” she said. “I did some research and found out that iPhone 14 and newer models have built-in Crash Detection if it’s turned on in settings. And she had an iPhone 14,” she added.
She further emphasized the importance of ensuring this feature is enabled by following these steps:

2. Tap on SOS Emergency.
3. Turn on the toggle for Call After Severe Crash.
On your Apple Watch:
1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
2. Under the My Watch tab, tap on SOS Emergency.
3. Turn on the toggle for Call After Severe Crash.
Currently, Crash Detection is available on:
– iPhone 14 and newer models (all variants) running iOS 16 or later
– Apple Watch Series 8 and newer models, Apple Watch SE 2nd generation, and Apple Watch Ultra running watchOS 9 or later
