The latest update from Hoa Phat Group (HPG) announces that the second blast furnace of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 steel production complex project has successfully produced its first batch of pig iron, marking the completion of Phase 2 of the project. The complex utilizes state-of-the-art European G7 technology.
Designed, manufactured, and supplied by Danieli Corus (The Netherlands), the second blast furnace boasts a volume of 2,500m 3 and doubles the molten pig iron output of Dung Quat 1 while consuming less energy. Hoa Phat also invested in exceeding current environmental standards, particularly in reducing CO 2 emissions and energy consumption.
Technology plays a pivotal role in the project’s success. Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 employs cutting-edge technology from European G7 partners, including SMS (Germany) for its basic oxygen steelmaking (BOF) and RH vacuum refining furnaces, Primetals (UK) for its thick steel slab casting machine, and Danieli Corus (The Netherlands) for the blast furnace (BF). This advanced system aims to achieve the highest product quality while ensuring optimal and environmentally friendly operations at the lowest production costs.

As the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia, Hoa Phat invests in modern technology, adopting a closed-loop model that recovers all excess heat and utilizes surplus coke oven gas from pig iron and steelmaking processes as fuel for boilers to generate electricity. This advanced system not only enhances production efficiency, optimizes product quality, and saves energy but also reduces operating costs.
With the completion of the second blast furnace at Dung Quat 2, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat complex now operates a total of six blast furnaces, including four from the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 1 project and two from the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project. The complex’s total capacity reaches 12 million tons/year, including 9 million tons of hot-rolled coil (HRC) and high-quality steel.
In addition to the standard HRC products, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project specializes in producing premium HRC grades, catering to various industries such as manufacturing, automotive, food, petrochemical, and household goods.
Upon the completion of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project, Hoa Phat Group’s total steel production capacity will reach 16 million tons/year, ranking among the top 30 steel companies worldwide.
