**EVN Successfully Commissions 110 kV Con Dao Transformer Station**
On September 4, 2025, at 4:05 a.m., the Project Management Unit No. 3 of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) successfully conducted the first energization of the 110 kV Con Dao Transformer Station, marking a significant milestone in providing electricity from the national grid to the Con Dao Special Zone.

Construction of the underground cable providing electricity from the national grid to Con Dao
Earlier, on September 2, 2025, at 7:09 p.m., EVN successfully energized the project to supply electricity from the national grid to the Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City.
This project is a tribute to the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
The successful energization of the project ensures a stable, continuous, and safe power supply to the Con Dao Special Zone, supporting socio-economic development, national defense, security, and improving the lives of the local population.
**Con Dao No Longer Relies on Local Diesel Power Generation**
Notably, the supply of electricity from the national grid will replace local diesel power generation, reducing electricity production costs, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, and contributing to Vietnam’s commitment to reducing emissions and sustainable development.
“This achievement demonstrates our capability to execute large-scale energy projects, utilizing advanced technology, even under complex and harsh marine construction conditions,” EVN stated.
This marks a pivotal moment in realizing the national energy infrastructure development strategy, reflecting the determination of the government, the power sector, and all project participants to develop infrastructure for Vietnam’s coastal and border areas.
The project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district, with EVN as the investor, has a scale of 110 kV, a total length of 103.7 km, and a total investment of VND 4,923 billion. Construction began in December 2024, with the completion of the entire cable route on August 12, 2025. The expansion of the 220 kV Vinh Chau substation in Can Tho city was finalized on August 5, 2025.
Great News for the People of Con Dao Special Zone
After much anticipation, the first power line from the national grid will be extended to Con Dao Special Zone via an undersea cable system.
