Upon receiving the report, the Van Ban Commune Police promptly arrived, provided emotional support, and encouraged Ms. T to share details. Through their investigation, the police confirmed that Ms. T was indeed being scammed online.

Ms. T revealed that approximately 10 days prior, she had befriended someone on TikTok. After some conversation, this individual claimed to have sent her a gift box containing $500,000 in cash, which was allegedly held at Tan Son Nhat Airport customs.

Shortly after, a person posing as a customs officer called Ms. T, demanding she transfer 160 million VND to a Prosperity and Development Commercial Joint Stock Bank (PG Bank) account in Hanoi, under the name “NGUYEN THI NGOC THU.” The scammer claimed the money transfer from abroad violated regulations, and the gift box was being held by customs. To receive the $500,000, Ms. T was told to pay a penalty fee and currency conversion charge of 160 million VND.

After receiving counseling and clarification from the Van Ban Commune Police, Ms. T fully understood the scam tactics and halted the money transfer.
