Just days after Apple unveiled the AirPods Pro 3 with its new language translation feature, another product developed by a Vietnamese startup has captured attention at the A80 event: LocaTalk. This innovative app offers fully offline, bidirectional translation, leveraging existing AirPods to transform them into a global communication tool.

Supports 10 Languages from the Start

LocaTalk enables seamless translation between 10 widely spoken languages, including Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Taiwanese (Mandarin), Korean, Japanese, French, German, Czech, and Swedish. These languages are commonly used in travel, trade, and education. The app is rapidly expanding to support over 50 additional languages in the near future.

One standout feature is its precise recognition of Vietnamese accents from the Northern, Central, and Southern regions. This allows Vietnamese expatriates to communicate naturally in their native language, eliminating the need to switch to English or other languages.

Offline Translation, No Internet Required, Hands-Free Operation

Unlike Google Translate, which requires an internet connection, or Microsoft Translator, which demands manual input for each translation, LocaTalk operates entirely offline. The app processes language in real-time without the need for manual intervention, offering a truly hands-free experience. This is particularly useful during travel, quick conversations, or when maintaining a natural flow of dialogue.

At the A80 exhibition in Hanoi, despite frequent internet congestion due to high visitor traffic, international guests seamlessly used LocaTalk to communicate with vendors and staff. This real-world test demonstrated the system’s reliability even in the absence of an internet connection.

Transform Your AirPods into a Translation Tool

A unique feature of LocaTalk is its compatibility with the nearly 600 million AirPods in use globally. Users can leverage their existing devices for direct translation via the app, eliminating the need for additional hardware. According to LocaAI representatives, the platform will soon support Android and other operating systems, broadening its global accessibility.
