During the recent 2nd meeting of Gia Lai Province’s Steering Committee for National Key Projects, provincial leaders provided updates on the investment project for the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway.
According to the report, the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway project spans approximately 125 km and passes through 17 communes and wards. The total investment is over 43.7 trillion VND, including over 4.7 trillion VND for compensation, support, and resettlement.

The expressway is designed with 4 lanes, a road width of 24.75 meters, and a design speed of 100 km/h. However, the sections through An Khê Pass and Mang Yang Pass have a maximum speed limit of under 80 km/h.
The project will preliminarily require approximately 942.15 hectares of land, including about 189.92 hectares of rice fields, 257.35 hectares of forestry land, and 494.88 hectares of other land. Approximately 324.88 hectares of forest land (protection and production forests) will need to be converted for use.
To date, the Provincial People’s Committee has issued documents on compensation, support, and resettlement; adjusted the route through An Khê Pass; submitted proposals to the Provincial Party Committee for the construction of additional resettlement areas; and completed surveys for proposed sections, routes, and groundbreaking ceremony locations.
Localities have established Commune-level Compensation, Support, and Resettlement Steering Committees. The Provincial People’s Committee has guided communes and wards to follow proper procedures and methods for determining specific land prices and has conducted public awareness campaigns regarding the project’s investment policy.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Phạm Anh Tuấn urged localities to uphold their responsibilities, closely monitor tasks, and ensure timely implementation to avoid delays in the project’s progress. Relevant departments and agencies were asked to propose personnel enhancements for the leadership of the Provincial Project Management Board to meet the demands of the large workload and tight schedule ahead.
Urgent action is required to determine specific land prices for the timely issuance of land recovery notices. During price determination, attention must be given to areas bordering two administrative units to ensure consistency and uniformity, facilitating the preparation, appraisal, and approval of compensation and land recovery plans.
Chairman Phạm Anh Tuấn emphasized the need to locate resettlement areas in convenient, accessible locations to minimize disruption to residents’ lives. Additionally, vocational training and local job creation solutions must be developed to ensure the well-being of households affected by the project.
The Provincial Traffic and Civil Project Management Board and the Provincial Project Management Board will collaborate to support and supervise communes and wards in implementing compensation and resettlement for assigned sections, ensuring progress and quality.
Provincial Party Secretary Hồ Quốc Dũng instructed all levels, sectors, and localities to focus on completing legal procedures, land clearance, and necessary conditions to commence the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway Project in December 2025.
