Toyota to Invest $360 Million in Hybrid Vehicle Production in Vietnam

Starting February 2025, Toyota Vietnam has proposed amendments to laws and regulations aimed at reducing taxes and fees on automobiles. These changes are designed to lower vehicle costs, making hybrid models more accessible to the general public.

Toyota Vietnam Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence

At the 30th-anniversary celebration of Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) (1995-2025), CEO Nakano Keita announced, “Toyota Vietnam will modernize its headquarters and manufacturing facilities, launching the production of our first Hybrid vehicle model with an investment exceeding $360 million.”

This initiative underscores Toyota’s commitment to enhancing domestic production capabilities, supporting the sustainable growth of Vietnam’s automotive industry and supply chain.

Over three decades, Toyota Vietnam has produced over 700,000 vehicles and delivered more than 1 million to customers. Cumulative export revenue from parts and components has reached nearly $1 billion. The company has contributed over $14.4 billion to the national budget, ranking among Vietnam’s top 10 taxpayers in 2024.

Toyota’s Best-Selling Models in Vietnam

The Toyota Vios leads as the best-selling model over the past 30 years with 263,092 units sold, followed by the Innova (151,927), Fortuner (125,605), Corolla Altis (85,765), and Camry (76,062).

According to 2025 data, Toyota ranked as Vietnam’s second best-selling automotive brand in the first eight months, with 41,113 units sold, trailing behind VinFast, which sold 89,970 units. Hyundai, Ford, Honda, and Mitsubishi followed in subsequent positions.

Toyota’s decision to produce hybrid vehicles in Vietnam aligns with the country’s tightening emissions and fuel efficiency regulations.

Toyota’s Strategic Initiatives for Sustainable Growth

In February 2025, CEO Nakano Keita met with leaders of Vinh Phuc Province (now Phu Tho Province) to propose legislative amendments reducing taxes and fees on automobiles, particularly hybrids. These measures aim to lower costs, enhance accessibility to Toyota vehicles, and encourage eco-friendly transportation choices.

Toyota Vietnam also pledged to focus on assembling and producing high-quality vehicles domestically, increasing local production while reducing imports.
