According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vina Fruit), the export turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first nine months of 2025 reached approximately $6.11 billion, an 8.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with a trade surplus of over $4.2 billion.

This growth is primarily attributed to the recovery of fruit and vegetable exports to China in August and September. Several products, including pomelos, saw positive growth. Specifically, in August, Vietnam’s pomelo exports exceeded $5 million, a nearly 10% increase year-over-year. Over the first eight months, the country earned over $52 million, a 28% rise compared to the same period last year. As a result, pomelos have entered the top 10 exported fruits and nuts in Vietnam.

To date, fresh Vietnamese pomelos have been exported to 14 countries and territories.

In late 2022, fresh pomelos became the seventh Vietnamese fruit, following mangoes, longans, lychees, dragon fruits, rambutan, and milk fruit, permitted for import into the United States after five years of negotiations by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During their visit to Vietnam in early 2023, former U.S. Deputy Secretaries of Agriculture Jennifer Moffitt and Alexis Taylor sampled the pomelos and praised their quality. Deputy Secretary Taylor, overseeing agricultural trade, remarked, “Absolutely fantastic. 10/10. I look forward to seeing this pomelo in U.S. stores and purchasing it as a local consumer.”

Similarly, since December 2022, pomelos have been officially exported to New Zealand, leading to a significant surge in export turnover. In April 2024, pomelos gained access to the South Korean market. Most recently, on October 9, pomelos were officially approved for import into Australia, marking the first time this fruit has entered one of the world’s most demanding markets.

The area dedicated to pomelo cultivation in Vietnam has expanded from 50,000 hectares in 2015 to over 100,000 hectares in 2025, with production reaching nearly 1 million tons. The main growing regions are the Mekong Delta, the Red River Delta, and the Northern Midlands and Mountains. While the export value of fresh pomelos reached approximately $60 million in 2024, the potential remains vast due to year-round harvesting and competitive production costs.

According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the global processed fruit and vegetable market is experiencing steady growth due to increasing demand for convenience products.

Valued at $77 billion in 2025, the global processed fruit and vegetable market is projected to reach $111.6 billion by 2035, growing at an average annual rate of 3.8%. Within this, the global frozen fruit and vegetable market is expected to reach $4.9 billion in 2025 and $9.4 billion by 2035, with an average annual growth rate of 6.7%. The global canned fruit market is anticipated to grow from $17.12 billion to $22.1 billion by 2035. This presents a significant opportunity for businesses to diversify into processed products rather than relying solely on fresh exports.
