Recently, Ms. Ngoc Lieu (born in 1990) submitted her documents, invoices, and receipts to a partner located on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Sai Gon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
On October 13th, the letter was sent, and Ms. Lieu paid the postal fee. However, two days later, her partner received a call from a young man demanding a transfer of 25,000 VND as a fee for receiving the documents.

“Given the small amount and the fact that I was expecting a document delivery via postal service, I transferred the money immediately. After the transfer, I confirmed with Ms. Lieu, who stated that she had sent the letter via postal mail, not a courier service,” shared Ms. Hang, Ms. Lieu’s partner.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Diep (born in 1998) shared: “I’m unsure how the scammers obtained the information; it’s as if they’re monitoring the postal system, waiting for transactions to occur. A few weeks ago, my partner, Company G.C, sent a letter to my office in Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. The day after the letter was sent, someone called, claiming there was a letter for me. Alarmingly, the scammer accurately mentioned the sender’s name, the time, and the location. They requested 18,000 VND over the phone, and since it matched the transaction, I transferred the money. Only after the transfer did I realize I had been scammed.”
Many citizens have expressed concerns about the security of personal and transaction information when using postal services. While the loss of a small amount of money may seem insignificant, the exposure of customer data is a far more serious issue.
“I urge the Ho Chi Minh City Police and the Ministry of Public Security to investigate the leakage of information through the postal system. The fact that scammers have access to customer data is extremely dangerous and not to be taken lightly,” stated Ms. Ngoc Lieu.
In recent times, the Ho Chi Minh City Police have repeatedly warned the public about increasingly sophisticated high-tech scams that have ensnared many victims.
To protect themselves from scammers, citizens should remain vigilant, refrain from sharing personal information, bank account details, or OTP codes, and avoid transferring money or conducting transactions over the phone if they have any doubts.
Additionally, individuals should not follow any instructions from unclear calls or messages to prevent falling victim to scams.
