Renowned for its portfolio of large-scale projects across Vietnam, Son Hai Group is emerging as a leading private contractor in the transportation infrastructure sector. The group has executed numerous multi-billion-dong projects as part of the Eastern North-South Expressway.

Currently, Son Hai Group is classified as a Category A contractor by the Ministry of Construction, capable of handling multi-billion-dong contracts. The group distinguishes itself with its philosophy of “genuine work – genuine warranty” and its pioneering investment in expressways using 100% private capital. Notably, many of Son Hai Group’s projects come with a 10-year warranty, five times the standard requirement.

A prime example is the Nha Trang – Cam Lam Expressway (49 km, over 7.6 trillion dong), whose road surface remains intact after two years of operation. The Ministry of Transport even used Son Hai’s construction samples as a technical benchmark for other contractors.

Furthermore, Son Hai is celebrated for its exceptional construction speed, completing the Nha Trang – Cam Lam Expressway three months ahead of schedule, reducing travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang to just five hours. This marks the first time a Vietnamese private enterprise has independently funded and completed an expressway using its own capital. Photo: Doc San Tunnel, part of the project.

Similarly, the Van Phong – Nha Trang Expressway (over 83 km, nearly 12 trillion dong) is a critical project where Son Hai constructed more than 22 km and eight major bridges. Upon completion, this route will connect the Van Phong – Nha Trang – Cam Ranh seaport chain, forming a strategic coastal transport corridor in Central Vietnam.

Additionally, Son Hai has expanded into real estate with the Nam Cau Dai Urban Area in Quang Binh (over 43 ha, 2.2 trillion dong), marking its transition from a “contractor” to an “urban developer” and its evolution into a multi-sector conglomerate. However, after six years, land clearance for this project remains incomplete. Photo: Project rendering.

Moreover, Son Hai’s expertise in hydraulic engineering is evident in projects like the Ngan Truoi Reservoir (Ha Tinh), Ta Trach Reservoir (Thua Thien Hue), and Rao Nan Reservoir (Quang Binh), which showcase its capability to execute complex, technically demanding projects in challenging terrains. Currently, Son Hai is proposing to invest in the 263 km North-South Expressway (Hoai Nhon – Nha Trang) using 100% private capital—a move expected to enhance the national infrastructure network and expand the private sector’s role in transportation investment. Photo: Nhat Bac – Government News.
