AEON’s Commitment to Sustainable Development in Vietnam

As a leading retailer, AEON is committed to driving positive, long-lasting environmental change through three strategic pillars: fostering sustainable consumer habits, transforming our retail model into an eco-friendly framework, and investing in education to nurture the next generation of mindful consumers.

AEON recognizes the younger generation as the next wave of consumers, playing a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable lifestyle for society. Therefore, AEON Vietnam has launched numerous environmental education initiatives targeting this demographic to foster green consumer behavior and create a dual ripple effect within families, schools, and communities.

AVN’s Objectives and Strategy for Investing in Sustainable Education for Future Consumers

AEON Vietnam has developed a comprehensive education strategy designed to engage and cater to all developmental stages of young people, spanning from primary to high school levels. The core goal is to provide age-appropriate knowledge and skills, ensuring continuous and effective growth.

This strategy enables AEON to accompany the younger generation through their evolution: from foundational environmental awareness to hands-on sustainable activities within the community and AEON’s retail network. This logical progression empowers them to become not only savvy consumers but also future leaders driving positive change for a more sustainable society.

Sustainable Education in Primary Schools – Planting Seeds Through the Cheers Club Project

Specifically, in 2024, AEON piloted the Cheers Club project, introducing primary students to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals through real-world learning experiences in supermarkets—their everyday shopping environments. This approach bridges awareness, behavior, and habits from a young age. Activities include cashier simulations, group discussions, creative projects, and presentations.

The AEON Cheers Club allows students to experience cashier duties, engage in group discussions, and participate in creative presentations.

By 2025, the program expanded to Long Biên, Tân Phú, and Huế, with student participation quadrupling in two years compared to the pilot year.

Sustainable Education in Middle Schools – Expanding Opportunities for Environmental Engagement

Building on the foundation laid in primary schools, AEON extends sustainable education to middle schools through hands-on environmental activities, notably tree planting—an AEON tradition before each shopping center opening. Students, families, and local communities participate in planting trees, enhancing local green spaces and fostering a connection between people and nature. As students nurture saplings and watch them grow, their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable living strengthens.

Over the past decade, AEON Vietnam, alongside students, locals, and partners, has planted over 114,000 trees nationwide (as of November 2025) in areas where AEON operates.

High School Education – Young Asian Leaders Program: Cultivating Globally-Minded Sustainable Citizens

At the high school level, AEON elevates sustainable education through the “Young Asian Leaders” program, aiming to nurture future leaders in sustainable consumption. Collaborating with businesses and government agencies, the program offers a unique multicultural learning environment, enabling students to connect, understand, and appreciate cultural differences. This fosters global leadership skills such as active listening, empathy, and cross-cultural collaboration.

AEON Vietnam collaborates with the AEON 1% Foundation and partners to implement the Young Asian Leaders Program.

Beyond its educational impact, the program has achieved significant milestones. As a regional initiative, it has engaged 190 Vietnamese students since 2011, alongside participants from across Asia, demonstrating its positive influence and value.
