Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) stands as a cornerstone of Vietnam’s economy.
It is the largest enterprise and the only non-banking corporation in Vietnam with consolidated assets exceeding 1 million billion VND.
Over 50 years of establishment and development, Petrovietnam’s projects have achieved self-sufficiency in numerous large-scale endeavors. These projects not only ensure energy security and significantly contribute to the state budget but also redefine the capabilities of Vietnam’s industrial and energy sectors.
Notably, during the 2022-2025 period, several key projects were successfully executed under the group’s umbrella, despite the harsh conditions of the global energy market. Petrovietnam has mastered the most critical stages of the oil and gas value chain, including ultra-large and ultra-heavy energy projects.

The most prominent milestone in 2025 was the Dai Hung Phase 3 Development Project. Once on the brink of cessation, the Dai Hung oil field has entered a new development phase.
By May 2025, the project welcomed its first commercial oil flow. As the EPCI contractor, Vietsovpetro collaborated closely with Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), Petrovietnam Drilling & Well Services Corporation (PV Drilling), and the Domestic Upstream Operating Company (PVEP-POC).
Given the deep-water, offshore nature of the field and the 30-year-old infrastructure, PVEP-POC optimized the design, reused existing infrastructure, localized equipment, and mobilized resources within the Petrovietnam ecosystem. This approach ensured the project’s safe and economically efficient completion.

In 2025, Petrovietnam also installed the massive steel structure of the CPP Block B Central Processing Platform’s topside. The project involved a 7,400-ton jacket and nearly 5,700 tons of piles, with a total investment of over 3.3 trillion VND.
The entire structure was fabricated domestically by PTSC’s Marine Construction Company (PTSC M&C), involving nearly 1,000 engineers and workers. Behind these ultra-large, ultra-heavy steel structures lies a complex technological system, including load-bearing designs for marine environments, advanced welding techniques for thick steel, thermal deformation control, and multi-layer protective coatings ensuring decades of offshore durability.

Additionally, Petrovietnam synchronized and optimized the construction of the BK-24 platform for Vietsovpetro. From design and jacket fabrication to topside construction and offshore installation, the entire process was executed by Vietsovpetro’s Construction, Survey, and Repair Enterprise.
The project achieved first oil 65 days ahead of schedule, showcasing not only progress but also mastery over the EPCI construction rhythm—a significant challenge in modern oil exploitation projects.
The White Shark and White Shark South Project in Block 09-2/09 demonstrates Petrovietnam’s ability to manage complex marginal field clusters. Involving Vietsovpetro, Petrovietnam Exploration and Production Corporation (PVEP), and Zarubezhneft, with Vietsovpetro as the operator, the project encompasses the CPP-KNT central platform, WHP-KTN light platform, subsea pipelines, cables, and modifications to existing platforms. The project demands high technical and organizational precision.
Launched on June 7, 2023, Vietsovpetro optimized the design, employed flexible construction methods, and maximized internal resources to complete the project ahead of schedule. The White Shark and White Shark South fields’ commercial production helps maintain output amid declining neighboring fields, enhancing energy security and sovereignty.

Beyond traditional oil and gas, Petrovietnam’s self-sufficiency extends to renewable energy, with PTSC serving as the main contractor for 33 offshore wind turbine foundations in Taiwan (China).
Alongside offshore megaprojects, onshore self-sufficiency is emerging through a joint venture between PTSC and PetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PETROCONs) in the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant project. This marks Petrovietnam’s debut as an EPC contractor for large-scale onshore energy projects, gradually closing the capability loop from marine structure design and fabrication to industrial and energy plant construction.
Prime Minister Compares Nhon Trach Thermal Power Project to the Legend of Saint Giong
This morning (December 14th), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the inauguration ceremony of the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Thermal Power Plants in Dong Nai province. With a total investment of approximately $1.4 billion, the project stands as a testament to Vietnam’s energy sector ambitions. Drawing a parallel to the legendary tale of Saint Giong, the Prime Minister hailed the project’s team as fearless warriors, determined to overcome any challenge to propel Vietnam’s oil and gas industry towards a future where it stands shoulder to shoulder with global leaders.

The newly inaugurated Nhon Trach 3 and 4 LNG Power Plants set new benchmarks in technology, scale, and implementation speed, marking a significant milestone in energy infrastructure.
Who’s Behind Vietnam’s $1.3 Billion Offshore Project Requiring 13,000 Tons of Steel and a 1,000-Strong Workforce?
With a total investment of approximately VND 3,300 billion, this project mobilized nearly 1,000 engineers and workers directly involved in the construction and manufacturing process.
