The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 (NT3&4) power plant projects are pivotal components of the Thi Vai – Nhon Trach linkage chain, showcasing PV Power’s capabilities and Petrovietnam’s long-term vision in developing LNG-based power. These projects not only address energy security challenges but also lay the groundwork for Vietnam’s transition to a modern, clean, and sustainable gas-fired power era.

Vietnam’s First Integrated LNG-to-Power Model

The Thi Vai – Nhon Trach chain represents Vietnam’s first fully integrated LNG-to-power model, seamlessly connecting the Thi Vai LNG terminal’s gas reception, storage, and regasification facilities to the Nhon Trach power hub. Within this structure, NT3&4, led by Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), plays a critical role by converting LNG into high-efficiency electricity, directly contributing to the national grid.

With a combined capacity of 1,624 MW and an expected annual output of over 9 billion kWh, NT3&4 is the linchpin of the entire chain. Its advanced operational technology, power generation efficiency, and reliability reflect the system’s ability to optimize LNG utilization.

This end-to-end integration ensures operational stability and flexibility, setting a benchmark for future LNG-to-power centers envisioned by Petrovietnam. Thus, NT3&4 is more than a connection point—it’s a cornerstone of Vietnam’s energy evolution.

PV Power’s Leadership: A Solid Foundation for Future Growth

PV Power’s role in Vietnam’s first LNG project marks its evolution from operating traditional power plants to mastering advanced gas turbine technology, combined cycle systems, and international environmental, safety, and social standards. The company also secured nearly $1 billion in foreign loans without government guarantees, demonstrating its financial acumen.

The success of NT3&4 extends beyond completing a large-scale project—it establishes PV Power as a leader in developing major LNG-to-power initiatives. The project enhances grid stability by adding over 9 billion kWh annually, reduces Southern Vietnam’s load pressure, and cuts CO₂ emissions through high efficiency and clean fuel use.

The launch of these plants also opens Vietnam’s LNG market, attracting investment and enabling Petrovietnam to develop modern LNG-to-power hubs in subsequent phases.
