Da Nang International Airport Driven to Develop as a Smart Airport Model
Following its 5-star recognition by Skytrax in early January 2024, Da Nang International Airport was officially awarded with the prestigious honor at the “Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024” held in Germany on April 17th.
“This is an honor and a testament to the relentless improvement efforts of the entire airport team. With a spirit of hospitality and innovation, the airport aims to not only maintain its 5-star service quality but also constantly innovate to provide passengers with exceptional services beyond expectations,” said Do Trong Hau, Deputy General Director of AHT (Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company).
In 2024, Da Nang International Airport will continue investing in technology integration within its operations to reduce processing times and enhance the passenger experience. The overarching goal is to establish the first smart airport terminal model in Vietnam. As a pioneer, this journey promises to be challenging, but the Da Nang International Airport team is ready to face and strive to achieve anything that will provide the best possible experience for passengers. Every change, big or small, made today can have a significant impact in the future.
Milestone Advancements on a Lengthy Journey
Since its inception, technology has been a major focus of investment for Da Nang International Airport. The airport understands that digital transformation is crucial for enhancing service quality and passenger convenience.
During the 2022-2023 period, the airport installed automated check-in systems such as automated immigration control systems (autogate), automated boarding gates (auto boarding gate), self-check-in kiosks (self-check-in kiosk), and, for the first time in Vietnam, a self-baggage drop at the airport terminal. The leading airline, Starlux, was the first to implement and deploy this system, marking a significant milestone as the entire check-in process at the airport terminal became fully automated. Since their implementation, these systems have brought about significant changes, reducing check-in times and creating smoother traffic flow during peak hours.
Da Nang International Airport and FPT Software Collaborate on Digital Transformation
On April 22, 2024, Da Nang International Airport organized a “Smart Airport Development Cooperation Announcement Ceremony” with FPT Software to promote digital transformation in the short term and work towards comprehensive modernization in the long term.
Specifically, the two parties will implement and complete the following projects in the second quarter, with completion expected by October 2024:
Installing AI cameras in airport check-in areas to assess congestion levels, allowing operations staff to quickly identify hotspots in real-time and implement effective solutions.
Rolling out a mobile application that offers smart support solutions such as departure status notifications and real-time location tracking on a map.
Developing a new website that provides the most user-friendly experience for multilingual information search and retrieval.
Deploying additional touch screen information search and retrieval systems throughout the terminal to provide timely support for information needs. The system will also collect feedback and evaluations, enabling the airport to identify issues faced by passengers and implement timely improvement plans.
“The success or failure of digital transformation projects lies not in the technology chosen but in how the technology is used,” said Do Trong Hau. Therefore, instead of opting for ready-made solutions on the market, the airport chose to partner with FPT Software to develop customized solutions that optimally meet the specific needs of the airport.
In the context of the aviation sector, which demands constant flexibility and adaptation to meet the increasingly diverse needs of passengers, Do Trong Hau believes that FPT Software, a highly experienced programmer in international project implementation, is the most suitable partner to develop effective digital transformation solutions.
Through this collaboration, the airport aims not only to introduce new features and continuous updates to enhance the passenger experience but also to contribute to the advancement of the country’s technology sector. Do Trong Hau is confident that the joint collaboration between AHT and FPT Software will create many opportunities for the development of diverse aviation services, leading to efficient check-in time optimization, enhanced passenger experience, and a boost to tourism development in Da Nang city.
