This event celebrates significant holidays in May, including the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong’s liberation, the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2024, and especially the 150th anniversary of Hai Phong Port’s formation and development.

The project comprises two main berths measuring 750 meters, a barge berth of 150 meters, cargo storage yards, roads, auxiliary works, and synchronous technical infrastructure. It can accommodate vessels with a capacity of 8,000 to 14,000 TEU, equivalent to 100,000 to 160,000 DWT, and handle a cargo volume of 1.1 million TEU per year. Construction began in July 2022, and as of now, the project has completed 70% of the work volume, with some items, including the construction of two quays, finished ahead of schedule by three months.

The project is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025. The remaining construction items are also being expedited, with a strong determination to complete and put them into operation in 2025.

Once completed and in use, the project will help reduce sea transport costs, thereby lowering logistics costs for businesses, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s import and export goods, and boosting the development of deep-sea ports and logistics activities in the northern region. It will also serve as a foundation for more effective exploitation of potential and advantages and act as a crucial driving force for the socio-economic development of the city.

Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh, Director-General of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, shared that Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2019, of the Politburo on building and developing Hai Phong City by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, and the Resolution of the 16th Hai Phong City Party Congress, clearly stated the three strategic pillars that the city needs to focus on investing in: seaports-logistics, industry, and trade-tourism.

Hai Phong is oriented to become an industrial city associated with modern and sustainable seaports; a global maritime city and a key economic center of the country, firmly maintaining its position as the northern region’s gateway to the sea. In line with the city’s development goals and keeping up with the trends in the maritime transport industry and customer demands, Hai Phong Port has concentrated all resources to implement the project of constructing two container berths No. 3 and 4 at Hai Phong International Gateway Port on time and with guaranteed quality.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh, today’s event marks an important milestone in the history of Hai Phong Port. Throughout its 150-year development journey, with existing traditional berths capable of accommodating vessels with a maximum capacity of 40,000 tons, Hai Phong Port has materialized its aspiration to venture into the vast ocean, contributing to the transformation of Lach Huyen Port Area into a world-class port capable of handling import and export goods from the northern region directly to Europe and America.

With its rich tradition as the first and leading port in the northern port system, Hai Phong Port will continue to build on its proud achievements, turning traditions into specific goals and actions. It will remain the core unit within the Vietnam Maritime Corporation and the driving force for the economic and political development of Hai Phong City and the maritime industry.
