Mercedes-Benz has recently unveiled a special edition Mercedes-Maybach S680, capturing the attention of the superyacht community among the ultra-wealthy. The design of this luxurious vehicle is inspired by a 1939 racing yacht, commemorating 150 years of Robbe & Berking, renowned silversmiths based in Flensburg, Germany.
Based on the standard Maybach S680, this special edition stands out with its unique two-tone exterior color scheme. The upper body is painted in Nautical Blue Metallic, representing the sky, while the lower body features a vibrant Patagonia Red, reminiscent of the vast ocean. Delicately separating these two tones is a subtle Opalite White Metallic line, resembling a seashell.
The 21.48-meter long superyacht Sphinx was built in 1939 by Abeking & Rasmussen. In 2005, after changing hands several times, the yacht was restored to its original, proud condition. One of the current owners of the yacht, Oliver Berking, is the founder of the Robbe & Berking Classics yacht shipyard in Flensburg, which is now collaborating with Maybach.
The interior of this Maybach S680 is even more extraordinary than its exterior. The seats, headliner, door panels, and even the storage compartments are upholstered in Crystal White nappa leather, handcrafted by the Maybach Manufaktur Exclusive department. A highlight of the interior is the diamond pattern embossed into the seats, accented by Orion Grey stitching.
When it comes to superyachts, the use of high-quality wood is often a prominent feature, and this car is no exception. The dashboard and the partition in the second row of the special Maybach S680 feature exquisite walnut wood, carefully crafted to match the color of the yacht’s deck. Delicate aluminum inlays accentuate the wood trim.
Under the hood lies a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering 603 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. The car is equipped with a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission and the renowned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
The price of this special edition Maybach S680 has not been disclosed, but it already has an owner. In Germany, a standard Maybach S-Class starts at EUR 182,070 (approximately USD 5 million), while the Maybach S680 starts at EUR 237,208.65 (approximately USD 6.5 million).
