Vietjet and the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport have signed an agreement to enhance air transport connectivity between Vietnam and Laos. The event was graced by Vietnamese President To Lam, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, and other prominent leaders from both nations.
Vietjet will also collaborate with the Lao Civil Aviation Authority to undertake civil aviation projects and expand its commercial operations and exploration in Laos. The company has committed to generating up to 2,500 new jobs in the Lao aviation industry. The Vietjet Aviation Academy will be responsible for providing international standard training, alongside the establishment of an independent Maintenance and Repair Organization (MRO) in Laos. As a partner, the Lao Civil Aviation Authority will extend administrative, legal, and infrastructural support, liaising with other agencies to facilitate the successful execution of these projects.
Vietjet’s efforts to develop air connectivity in Laos will offer locals and visitors affordable travel options and superior services, contributing to the country’s economic and social advancement. It will also enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Laos and other regional countries.
The Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport commended Vietjet‘s contributions and capabilities as an international company with extensive aviation experience. The signing of these aviation development cooperation agreements aligns with the goals and orientations agreed upon by the two governments in the Memorandum of Understanding on the Vietnam-Laos Transport Cooperation Strategy for 2016–2025.
In 2023, Vietjet commenced operations at a state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance center in Laos, jointly operated with Lao Airlines under the management of the Civil Aviation Authorities of both Vietnam and Laos. Earlier this year, the airline launched a direct route connecting Vientiane, Laos, to Ho Chi Minh City. Vietjet‘s extensive network not only links Ho Chi Minh City with Vientiane and other Lao destinations but also offers seamless connections throughout Vietnam and to various international destinations, including Australia, India, South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan.
