As of July 25, 2024, the cumulative electricity production and import of the national power system reached an estimated 174.113 billion kWh, up 11.70% from the same period in 2023 and accounting for 56.06% of the yearly plan (310.6 billion kWh) for 2024.

In July, water flow to hydroelectric plants in the Northern region continued to increase compared to the multi-year average, leading to controlled water discharge in some reservoirs following the inter-reservoir operation procedure and the direction of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Hydropower sources were mobilized at a high level due to improved hydrological conditions compared to the beginning of the year.

Thermal power sources (coal and gas) were adjusted according to the operation of hydropower sources.

Renewable energy sources were utilized based on the absorption capacity of the power grid and system demand.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade affirmed that the power supply situation in the first seven months of 2024 has been well-managed, ensuring sufficient electricity for production and daily life across the country.

According to the report of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), electricity supply is expected to be guaranteed for the remainder of 2024, meeting the demands of production and people’s daily lives.

However, EVN expressed concern about the continued high growth in electricity demand until the end of 2024, with low reserve capacity in the national power system predicted until October. In the event of high load combined with unfavorable factors, there are still potential risks of load adjustment during peak hours.

Given this situation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to closely monitor fuel supply (coal, gas, oil), power source operations, and urge relevant corporations, companies, and units to strictly implement solutions to ensure power supply for the remaining months of 2024.
