To meet the K95 roadbed filling deadline before the rainy season, the contractor added 7 new construction sites and worked day and night.

“We are making every effort to complete the K95 roadbed filling by September 15, except for areas with soft soil that require technical treatment and additional culverts. However, our biggest concern is the weather,” said the contractor’s representative.

Construction organization is being aggressively implemented, and sections that are behind schedule are having their workloads adjusted to be “rescued”.

The workload at this project is massive, with contractors having to complete 77 bridges, 586 culverts, and 81 pedestrian underpasses. Pictured here is the Song Ve Bridge, 610m long with 17 piers and 16 spans, connecting Hanh Phuoc and Hanh Thinh communes (Nghia Hanh district). It is the largest bridge on the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon expressway and has been successfully joined.

One notable feature of the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon project site is the three mountain tunnels on the expressway, with Tunnel 1 being 610m long, Tunnel 2 being 698m, and Tunnel 3 being 3.2km. Notably, Tunnel 3 is the newest and third-longest road tunnel in Vietnam, after Hai Van and Deo Ca tunnels.

Currently, Tunnels 1 and 2 have been completed, while Tunnel 3 has been excavated to nearly 3,000m out of 6,400m, with the goal of reaching 5,000m by the end of 2024.

For the tunnel sections, the construction unit works 24/7, with engineers and workers taking turns without rest.

Notably, the construction unit has studied and applied a newly invented tunnel excavation method called the “Deo Ca System”, which helps shorten the construction time.

Mr. Bui Hong Dang, Director of the Tunnel Command of the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Project, said that the traditional tunnel excavation method only allows one construction site in one space. However, with the newly researched excavation method, each construction site can be carried out in at least two spaces, helping to speed up the progress, reduce machinery and personnel costs, and improve project efficiency.

“This solution is being proposed for application at Tunnel 3 – Package XL3 of the project, with the goal of completing the entire work in 2025, contributing to the government’s goal of completing 3,000 km of expressways by 2025,” added Mr. Bui Hong Dang.

If the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Expressway is completed in 2025, eight months ahead of schedule, it will be a remarkable project with practical significance to celebrate the 14th National Party Congress.
