The Long Thanh airport link package is located in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, including T1 and T2 routes, with a total construction value of 2,630 billion VND.

On these two routes, there are three intersections and 1 precast bridge, 4 empty deck bridges, and 4 simple bridges. The construction time is 885 days. Currently, the T1 route has achieved 99.8% handover of the ground, and the T2 route has achieved about 81%. The contractor has mobilized 630 personnel with over 200 machinery and equipment, deploying 20 construction points across the entire route.

These days, the temperature in the Southern region is increasing, especially in the localities in the Southeastern region, including Dong Nai province, which is experiencing widespread heat. The highest temperature reaches 35-37 degrees. The contractor has adjusted the working hours to start earlier and finish earlier to avoid the midday sun. On the construction site of the T1 route, engineers and workers “brave the sun” to work.

At this time, the contractor has completed the compacting of the K95 roadbed, with the main roadbed reaching about 40%. The categories of bridges, drilled piles, and other types of piles achieved 938/1,200 piles, 82/138 box and pier bents completed, and 30/138 pier stems. The total progress of the package is 20.6%.

According to the technical design dossier, the T1 route is 4.3 km long with a design speed of 80 km/h according to urban main road standards, starting from the western boundary of Long Thanh airport to National Road 51. From there, it connects the transportation from Long Thanh airport to Ho Chi Minh City and the western provinces near the airport.

The T1 route also serves as a traffic route for transporting machinery, equipment, and materials to serve the future construction of phase 1 of Long Thanh airport.

The T2 route is 3.5 km long with highway standards and a design speed of 100 km/h, located on the highway section between Bien Hoa – Vung Tau, between the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay highway and an important road that forms a connection system for Long Thanh airport to the North-South highway.

The two intersections of this project are designed with iconic features such as the lotus flower and traditional drum shapes. Along the two routes number 1 and 2 connecting to Long Thanh airport, many small bridges will be constructed to serve the travel of people living around the project area.

The completion deadline according to the contract is December 2025. However, the contractor is mobilizing personnel and machinery to expedite the progress of the project ahead of the required deadline.

The only difficulty at present is that some points near the construction site have not been relocated. The contractor said that they have worked with the investor to propose to the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee to expedite the handover of the land to ensure synchronized construction.

The Long Thanh airport project is an important national-level project with significant significance for the socio-economic development of Vietnam. The total investment capital of the project is about 336,630 billion VND (16 billion USD), of which 4% is allocated for phase 1.

Phase 1 of Long Thanh airport has an investment scale of 1 runway and 1 passenger terminal, along with synchronized auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year and 1.2 million tons of cargo/year. After completing all phases, Long Thanh airport will have a capacity of up to 100 million passengers/year.

On March 14, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a ceremony to launch a competition to complete the construction and technical operation of the Long Thanh airport runway 3 months ahead of the contract schedule. This is a prerequisite item for Long Thanh airport to be able to operate and ensure safety.

ACV has directed the joint venture contractors to mobilize more than 350 machinery and equipment and nearly 1,500 engineers and workers to concentrate on construction to shorten the project duration.

The goal is to complete the construction and technical operation of the Long Thanh airport runway before April 30, 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
