The spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, Shu Jueting, affirmed that in the coming time, China will earnestly implement the important consensus reached between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries, and promote the improvement of quality and upgrade of economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam.

Mr. Shu Jueting emphasized that in recent years, trade between China and Vietnam has developed rapidly, and investment cooperation has achieved remarkable results. China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $200 billion for three consecutive years. In the first seven months of 2024, it continued to reach $145.07 billion, up 20.9% from the same period last year.

“China is the largest export market for Vietnamese agricultural products. Vietnamese fruits such as durian and dragon fruit are very popular with Chinese consumers. Agricultural imports from Vietnam account for about one-fifth of the total agricultural imports from ASEAN countries,” said Shu Jueting.

In the field of investment cooperation, according to Shu Jueting, Vietnam is an important foreign investment destination for China. From January to July this year, Chinese companies invested directly $1.84 billion in Vietnam, maintaining a rapid growth rate.

“The Ministry of Commerce [of China] will earnestly implement the important consensus reached between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries, taking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to promote the improvement of quality and upgrade of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries,” affirmed Shu Jueting.

Regarding specific measures, the spokesperson said that the Ministry of Commerce of China will strengthen bilateral trade cooperation, support enterprises from both sides to make full use of platforms such as the China International Import Expo (CIIE), China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), and China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO).

Promote trade facilitation and industrial development linkage; deepen regional economic integration, accelerate negotiations on the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Version 3.0, and continue to bring into play the benefits of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, contributing more to the development and prosperity of the region.
