A Home for All: No More Temporary or Dilapidated Housing

Earlier, in April 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Central Emulation and Reward Council, launched the emulation movement “Whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses” in 2025.

The movement aims to mobilize the construction and repair of 170,000 houses for poor and near-poor households nationwide, thereby completing the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses across the country in 2025.

According to the Lam Dong provincial leadership, in the past time, the province has developed plans and actively responded to and mobilized resources to participate in the emulation movement launched by the Prime Minister. Up to now, the Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong province has received VND 22 billion in support of the movement.

Currently, Lam Dong’s multidimensional poverty rate is about 3.16% (lower than the national average and the Central Highlands region). There are about 1,972 poor households in need of temporary and dilapidated house elimination in 2024-2025.

At the reception ceremony today, the leaders of Lam Dong province received support from sponsors and benefactors with a total amount of VND 41 billion.

Moved by the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commended and highly appreciated the noble deeds of the sponsors and benefactors, contributing to the emulation movement “Whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses” in 2025, reflecting the noble spirit and fine traditions of Vietnamese society.

The Prime Minister stated that this is an emulation movement to implement the Party and State’s policies on social security, with a consistent view of putting people at the center, as the subject, goal, resource, and driving force for development, without sacrificing progress, equality, social security, environment, and harmonious development for pure economic growth, and leaving no one behind.

With the goal of completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses across the country in 2025 – the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the movement is being deployed and supported by ministries, sectors, localities, and benefactors.

The Prime Minister requested that the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs coordinate with localities to comprehensively review the data on temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide; localities prepare land and infrastructure, and contribute their efforts along with the entire political system, the whole people, central agencies, and sponsors to implement the program with the goal of ensuring that no one lives in temporary or dilapidated houses.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to innovate in implementing the movement to mobilize the strength of the great national unity with the spirit of “healthy leaves covering torn leaves”, “few torn leaves covering many torn leaves”, promoting the activeness, proactiveness, self-reliance, and self-improvement of localities, and the joint efforts of everyone, every household, every level, and every sector, with the view that “resources come from thinking, motivation comes from innovation, and strength comes from the people.”

The Prime Minister hoped that enterprises, sponsors, and benefactors would continue to promote and contribute to this movement within their capacity.

* Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Heroic Mother of Vietnam Tran Thi Thung (residing in Ward 9, Da Lat city, Lam Dong province).

Asking after the health of Heroic Mother Tran Thi Thung, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State, and people always remember and appreciate the contributions and great sacrifices of families with meritorious services and revolutionary contributors.

The Prime Minister wished Mother Tran Thi Thung good health and hoped that she would continue to be a bright example, encouraging her children and grandchildren, as well as the people in her neighborhood, to preserve and promote the revolutionary traditions, actively contributing to the construction and development of the homeland and the country.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also requested that the local authorities continue to pay attention to and care for the material and spiritual lives of families with meritorious services and revolutionary contributors, reflecting the tradition of “When drinking water, remember the source” of the Vietnamese people.
