On August 28th, the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association (HUBA) collaborated with other organizations to host a workshop titled “Solutions for Smart Factories.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, shared that the city consistently encourages businesses to transition from traditional manufacturing models to smart factory models. This contributes to the city’s goal of developing a green and efficient industrial sector.

To facilitate this process, the city has implemented supportive policies for projects investing in high-tech industries, commerce, agricultural production services, healthcare and education, and economic infrastructure, among others. These projects are eligible for preferential loans of up to VND 200 billion per project.

The supported interest rate does not exceed the 12-month term deposit interest rate for Vietnamese dong of four commercial banks, plus a 2% annual management fee.

Mr. Jang Yoon Ho, Director of Partner Support at Samsung Electronics Vietnam, shares his insights.

The interest rate support period for these projects is up to seven years from the date of approval by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.

Mr. Do Phuoc Tong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Duy Khanh Mechanical Company and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Mechanical and Electrical Business Association, emphasized the urgency of digital transformation in factory production and operations for businesses.

This transformation enables enterprises to increase output, enhance competitiveness, and effectively meet the demands of partners and customers in an intensely competitive environment.

Mr. Jang Yoon Ho, Director of Partner Support at Samsung Electronics Vietnam, asserted that the costs of transitioning to smart factories are relatively low compared to the long-term benefits they offer.

Currently, Samsung is operating and establishing additional smart factories in Vietnam, while also assisting Vietnamese enterprises in their digital transformation journeys to become a part of Samsung’s supply chain.

According to Mr. Jang Yoon Ho, the prerequisite for participating in Samsung’s smart factory construction projects is for businesses to optimize their operational and production processes, ensuring that data is collected in real time.

“Thang Long Company, a specialist in producing earphone and charger bags, has been involved in Samsung’s project since 2023. By 2024, the company aims to achieve a transformation level of 3.0, and Samsung is supporting the expansion of smart capabilities throughout the factory.

Automation has been implemented in various production stages and equipment, resulting in significant improvements in quality, cost savings, and other aspects. However, the commitment of the company’s leadership has been instrumental in achieving these outcomes,” said Mr. Jang Yoon Ho.
