FPT Launches Second Data Center in Ho Chi Minh City

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation

On August 20th, FPT Corporation inaugurated its second data center in Ho Chi Minh City, named FPT Fornix HCM02.

FPT Fornix HCM02 boasts an impressive scale with 8 floors, a total area of 10,000 square meters, and a capacity of up to 3,600 racks. With this number of racks, it is the largest data center in Vietnam in terms of hardware accommodation.

A rack refers to a frame or cabinet designed to hold and organize hardware components such as servers, network devices (switches, routers), storage devices, and others.

FPT’s data center is built with a redundant architecture, featuring configurations of N+1, N+2, and 2N, allowing for uninterrupted maintenance and an impressive uptime of ≥99.982%.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation, revealed that Elon Musk’s low-orbit satellite internet service, Starlink, has been granted a trial license in Vietnam three weeks ago.

In the initial phase, Starlink selected two domestic units to build ground stations, with FPT being the first partner. This ground station, located at the Fornix HCM02 data center, will receive signals from satellites and retransmit them, providing satellite internet services to Vietnamese users.

Earlier, in March 2025, the government approved the policy to allow SpaceX to pilot telecommunication services using low-orbit satellites. In April, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc presented the pilot decision to Starlink during a meeting with Mr. Tim Hughes, Senior Vice President of SpaceX. Subsequently, the corporation coordinated with the Ministry of Finance to complete the procedures for establishing a 100% foreign-owned enterprise in Vietnam.

As per the pilot plan, SpaceX will invest approximately $1.4 billion in Vietnam, including placing orders for the domestic production of Starlink terminals, promising to create more jobs and boost the technology industry.

To date, Starlink has a presence in over 125 countries and territories, serving more than 5 million users. The service aims to build a global internet network by launching tens of thousands of low-orbit satellites (around 550 km) to provide broadband internet directly to the ground.
