Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Poultry Association, affirmed this. Accordingly, recent controversies on social media regarding some videos with images and captions claiming that some chicken eggs showed “unusual” signs such as double yolks, runny egg whites resembling jelly, abnormally shiny and colorful shells… are fabricated.

Double-yolk eggs being advertised on social media
According to Mr. Son, double-yolk eggs are quite normal. With his extensive experience working with poultry farms, he has often come across such eggs. Double-yolk eggs are usually sold at the same price as single-yolk eggs.
Additionally, there is no mechanism to artificially induce the formation of double yolks. When a chicken lays a double-yolk egg, it is due to genetic influences and farming conditions. It is not a consistent occurrence, and the likelihood of a chicken laying double-yolk eggs repeatedly is purely random.
Regarding the colorful eggshells, the Chairman of the Poultry Association asserted that the nutritional value of eggs with pink, brown, green, or white shells is the same.
Consumers are advised to purchase eggs from reputable sources that can guarantee quality and provide clear origin traceability.
Many experts in the livestock industry agree that double-yolk eggs are a normal physiological occurrence in poultry. The natural occurrence of double-yolk eggs in chickens is very low.
In farming, it is almost impossible to intervene and increase the likelihood of double-yolk eggs as it is related to the ovulation process in chickens. Attempting to induce double yolks through artificial insemination is impractical due to the high costs involved.
Similarly, bleaching and coloring eggshells is an expensive process, and any business engaging in such practices would be subject to penalties for deception.
