Massive Seizure: Nearly 5,000 Smuggled iPhones and OPPO Phones Intercepted in Vietnam

On October 6th, the Customs Authority announced that the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department had led multiple seizures, confiscating nearly 5,000 mobile phones from various brands and 2,550 children’s shoes suspected of intellectual property violations.

The Anti-Smuggling Control Team No. 4 (Team 4) of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department collaborated with the Drug Control Team No. 3 (Team 7), the Intelligence Gathering and Online Customs Surveillance Department (Department 2), and customs authorities at multiple border gates to inspect and seize nearly 5,000 mobile phones of various brands and 2,550 children’s shoes suspected of intellectual property violations. These items were found in transit shipments.

Specifically, Team 4 worked with the Moc Bai International Border Gate Customs to inspect a transit shipment belonging to W.T Trading and Service Co., Ltd. They discovered 88 used mobile phones with unclear origins. Following the discovery, customs authorities imposed an administrative fine of 33.3 million VND on the company and confiscated all seized items.

Customs authorities inspected another transit shipment of B.P.G One-Member Co., Ltd. at the Mong Cai International Border Gate in Quang Ninh Province. The declared goods were “Chinese fishing nets, 100% new.” However, the inspection revealed 2,540 used mobile phones and 2,550 children’s shoes suspected of counterfeiting Louis Vuitton and Adidas brands.

Most recently, customs authorities inspected a transit shipment of PYK Logistics and International Trade JSC at the same border gate. The declared goods were “Synthetic fabric clothing from China, 100% new.” However, the inspection uncovered 2,360 used mobile phones of brands like iPhone, OPPO, and HONOR.

According to the Customs Department, these cases are currently being processed in accordance with regulations.
