Recently, a trusted automotive dealer close to Mr. Vu shared images of the latest addition to his collection: a Porsche 356A Speedster, produced between 1955 and 1959. This model is a rare find, even in the international market, drawing significant attention from enthusiasts.
In Europe, the Porsche 356A Speedster commands prices ranging from $350,000 to $600,000, equivalent to 9.2–15.8 billion VND. Pristine or expertly restored examples can exceed 20 billion VND, including import and restoration costs. After more than 70 years, finding an original, well-functioning model is a challenging feat.

Mr. Vu’s Porsche 356A Speedster stands out with its classic, rare design. Finished in metallic silver-white, it features a softly rounded front, vintage round headlights, and the original Porsche emblem. The distinctive fastback hardtop sets it apart from typical Speedster models, while the “UN” lettering on the side and gleaming chrome wheels make it a head-turner on Vietnamese streets.

The interior preserves a nostalgic charm with its bright cream tones, classic leather seats, large three-spoke steering wheel, and mechanical gauges. Every detail, from the floor mats to the gear shift and door handles, has been meticulously restored, showcasing a dedication to preservation. Free from modern technology and screens, the 356A Speedster embodies the “pure mechanical” spirit and allure of a 70-year-old German sports icon. A coffee cup holder, a signature touch in Mr. Vu’s vehicles, adds a personal flair.

While engine details remain undisclosed, the original 356A features a horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine similar to the Volkswagen Beetle, with a displacement of 1,290–1,588 cc and an output of 50–130 horsepower. This engineering foundation paved the way for the iconic Porsche 911, a symbol of German sports car excellence.
The addition of the Porsche 356A Speedster to Mr. Vu’s collection not only underscores his passion for the Porsche brand but also highlights his commitment to preserving the historical legacy of classic sports cars in Vietnam.
